| DiamondLynn's Full Review: Music and Lights Sit'n Spin |
I remember watching my nephew spinning his silly little head off in 1984. His blonde hair flying out while he whirled in circles and the giggles that filled the air.
So when I was in Ames last December and saw the Playskool Sit and Spin music and lights on sale, a huge smile crossed my lips. I could just imagine nearly 20 years later my own little blonde haired booger-biter spinning and giggling, eyes shining in delight.
I picked it up and wrapped it and hid it under the Christmas tree.
Christmas morning he opened it..and my husband with a minimal of cursing put the toy together. Jack looked at it..smiled..and walked away.
The toy is a yellow disc with a Lazy~Susan type of design and a blue and purple stationary wheel on a stick in the middle. The wheel has 4 red buttons that light up and play different songs when pushed. The idea is to sit cross legged on the large yellow disc while using your upper body strength to turn the stationary wheel and make yourself spin..got that? Good!
My hubby pushed one of the buttons and the toy lit up and began to play music. I spun (or is it spinned?) the large yellow disc and cried "Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!"
Jack...played with the box.
We put his new blocks on it and spun it around the blocks flying off while we cried "Wheeeeeeeeeee."
Jack...played with the box.
Eventually he did decide to investigate the toy, by standing on the large yellow disc and having it fly out from under his feet. We learned then that this toy is to be used only under close supervision and while placed in the middle of a room away from any hard, sharp objects that he could hit his fuzzy little blonde head on.
He has had the toy for 3 months now and has used it as a radio, a turntable for his blocks, a stool, a seat and now is finally getting the concept. He sits down on it and with one hand on the wheel and the other pushing off the floor he spins.
He gets mild amusement out of it, but not the big dumb look on his face that my nephew used to get.
The toy is recommended for children ages 1 1/2 to 6 years old. Jack was just 1 1/2 when he got the toy, maybe he is younger than my nephew was when he got his, because I refuse to even entertain the idea that my nephew is smarter than my own son!
Perhaps the toy is to simple for Jack? Nah..it is a simple concept but what kid doesn't love to spin and get dizzy. I think that he just got a little nervous after his first few "let's stand on this and fly," experiments and now just needs to get his confidence up again.
The Sit and Spin was $12.99 and is a sturdy toy. I do recommend it, while my son doesn't get thrilled by it, he does enjoy it and it is a toy he can grow into and use for several years.
So Sit and Spin..just don't STAND and spin! Be safe..have fun.
