DavidGriffiths's Full Review: Mustang MV-ARM2 LCD Monitor Mount
Finding the Perfect TV Mount
I'd been looking for an articulating wall mount that would hold our 70lb LCD tv, allowing it to swing off the wall and around the corner.
Length is Everything
The problem with most arms was that they were too short. A 37 inch tv, with 3 inches of speakers on either side means a total width of 43 inches. In order to be able to open up and touch the corner, the length of the arm would need to be just over half of that length.
I thought I had found the arm I needed in the MV-ARM2. I bought it off TigerDirect, but they didn't list the length of the arm, so I went to the Mustang site (http://mustangav.com/). They listed the length as 27.3 inches.
The order was placed, and a week later the box arrived. On the outside of the box it said that it extends to 20.3 inches. Somewhere we'd lost 7 inches.
I pulled the arm out of the box, and thought it looked a little short. Out comes the measuring tape, and it turns out the MV-ARM2 is a paltry 17 inches long. OK - now it was 10 inches short.
And then I noticed that the manual says it will hold up to a 77lb television, while the website says 80lb.
The Quality is Great
The MV-AMR2 is very well made. It's cleverly engineered, and the fit and finish is great, and it comes with a lot of spare parts:
- a hook bracket and mounting plate. This allows the mounting of the plates (hook and mounting) to the tv, and then dropping the tv onto the arm.
- there are six different screw sizes and a spacer to for attaching the plates to your tv
- lag-bolts for mounting the tv to a stud in your wall (plus anchors for mounting into a concrete or cinder block wall).
- a plastic insert for cable management
- a clear, concise, well written manual with a western-font (Mustang?) in English, Spanish and French
In order to install this inaccurately advertised mount, the manual says you'll need a drill, a stud finder, a level, and a Philips screwdriver (why does no one use a Robertson screw?).
Back it Goes
I've emailed Mustang about the discrepancies, and haven't gotten a response. I don't know why there is such a difference, but I do know it was a huge waste of my time and effort. I am sure I'll get stuck with the shipping costs to return the item.
And the sad thing? The MT-ARM2 by Mustang looks like the it will do the trick.
