The German industrial-metal panzer has done it again - this time with their engaging, potent release Mutter (mother).
The title song itself spells out a dark lyric sadness depicting the longing of a motherless child.
"Keine Sonne die mir scheint
keine Brust hat Milch geweint
in meiner Kehle steckt ein Schlauch
hab keinen Nabel auf dem Bauch"
roughly translates into:
"No sun on me does shine a
no breast its milk did cry
in my throat a hose was placed
no navel on my stomach to be found"
Like many of Rammstein's songs the darkness of their lyrics are complimented by heavy electronic-enhanced guitar rock.
Those who like Rammstein's genre of metal found in previous
releases like Sehnsucht and Herzeleid will not be disappointed. An unerring utilitarian synchronicity of Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers' guitars is apparent as always - Oliver Riedel supplies a bolt-tight rhythmic bass backbone to the music and Till Lindemann still ueber-rolls his "R" with guttural delivery - but it flows well with the spirit of their songs.
Tracks like Feuer Frei!, Mein Herz Brennt and Zwitter are typical, howbeit a bit more "refined".
One of my favorite tracks is Ich Will (I want) - which could well be one of the more catchy and hence popular
tracks.
I was hoping for a bit more in terms of new direction, but all in all the album is very even, more mature and equal with their previous releases - which should be considered a compliment.
