My Big Rescue Book is an oversized board book full of great pictures and information for kids who love rescue vehicles!  I found it at a discount bookstore for $2 and it has been well worth that amount as it has been read and read over and over again.

The Book
My Big Rescue Book is a book by Roger Priddy.  It is 14 pages long but the pages are oversized.  To be exact, the book and it’s pages measure 10.5 inch square.  Each page has 6-10 full colored pictures.  The pictures are basically photographs and have lots of details. Each picture is labeled.

Each double page spread has a label at the top in big, bold print.    The labels are things like “Fire Trucks,” “Emergency Vehicles,” “Police,” “Coast Guard,” and “Rescue People.”  The pictures on those two pages correspond with the title so that the “Police” page has pictures of a police helicopter, a police boat, a police officer on a horse, and other police vehicles.  At the bottom of each page is a question about the pages such as “Who works in a hospital, helping people with injuries?”  Two of the pictures on this page are a doctor and a nurse and both could be the right answer.  Other pictures like the scuba diver and the helicopter pilot are obviously not the right answers.

My Thoughts
I really like this book and so does my son.  First of all, it is very durable.  As a board book, it can withstand a lot of reads and re-reads.  The pages turn easily and little fingers can’t tear them as they are thick and sturdy.  They also can be wiped clean in case of a sticky finger situation

The pictures in this book are very detailed and show lots of different parts of vehicles that one might not ordinarily see.   It gives an up-close look at lots of great vehicles  There is a large variety and it keeps my son interested.  He looks at this book over and over and always sees something new.  When we look at it together, it is a great chance to discuss the different types of vehicles.  We will read the questions at the bottom and discuss possible answers.  Sometimes my son will come up with things I hadn’t thought of!  Since it has the name of each vehicle under the picture, I never have to worry about not knowing what something is called!

Recommendations
I would recommend My Big Rescue Book to any vehicle lover. It is made especially for toddlers but appeals to even older children too.  It has great rescue vehicles and it is appropriate for babies, toddlers, and even preschoolers.  It is a great way to learn some new things about rescue vehicles!
