My Dad: Aqua Velva Not Included

Written: Aug 17 '06
Pros:A nicely done appreciation of fatherhood.
Cons:None.

“He’s all right, my dad.”

That’s the nominal lesson behind My Dad, which is less a straight story book, than a appreciation of the father figure in every child’s life. Browne uses universal details (dad is dressed throughout in pajamas, slippers, and robe) as he details all the ways a child looks at his or her dad and decides “He’s all right my dad.”

Most readers would agree with this nicely illustrated, funny (dad eats like a horse, swims like a fish, and screws up when he tries to help), and relatively benign look at everybody’s everyman: their Dad. Aqua Velva not included.
