This past June, the Fox Cities were hit with one of the worst storms they had ever seen. The lightening was so bright and consistent, that it never seemed to flash- it was just a white bright sky with bolts flying everywhere. The rain pounded our roof, and came in such large amounts that people were actually stalling out their cars in the roads because they looked like small rivers. In every storm situation, you should always head to the basement. We did this terrible night, and we only had one flashlight. The storm seemed to be getting worse, and the power was still out. The batteries died, and then our oldest said "Hey, I have MY flashlight upstairs in my room." Sure enough, my husband went upstairs and found it, and it was our only source of light for a good couple of hours until the power came on.
The flashlight that saved us that night was the Playskool My First Flashlight. It is all plastic, a white body with a mint green frame around the light area. To turn the flashlight on and off, you simply need to slide the purple switch which lays on top of the white handle.
The white handle has a firm grip, with purple texture underneath to help your child hold onto it easier, providing a better grip for their small hands. The handle is not to thick, so that any little hand should be able to put their entire hand around it.
The weight of the flashlight is very light, so it is safe for your child to use and carry and will not hurt their wrist or discomfort them in any way.
Our daughter has owned her's for about a couple of months, and has dropped it several times when transporting it. The light has not cracked, and the plastic has been kept intact.
As like many children, they do not understand the concept of shutting things off. This is why Playskool built in that automatic shut off to preserve the battery life for when you may REALLY need it like we did! The Flashlight will automatically turn off after 30 seconds from the last use.
The purple knob, located on the right side of the light head, is used for turning the color of the light from white, to green, to red. My daughter loves the different colors to shine on her walls at night when it is around bedtime.
The Playskool My First Flashlight takes 2 "C" Batteries that are easy enough to change, and last quite a long time. It is also easy to clean when your child decides to eat an ice cream cone while trying to hold it while reading a book-I know, what kids try to attempt these days!
You can purchase the Playskool My First Flashlight at Toys R Us and at Wal-Mart for $9.99. It has so many great uses for children, including a great tool for those last camping days this summer! I highly recommend it, so why not try one out today?
