| jlusk5's Full Review: My First Flashlight |
We received 2 Playskool My First Flashlight this year for Christmas. Nanny knew that both of my girls, age 5 and 2 like to play with flashlights, so she bought them both one. One of their favorite things to do is to get in their closet, shut the door, turn off the light and play with flashlights. Many times the girls will get quiet and when you go looking for them they are in the closet.
The flashlight comes in a dark yellow hard plastic, that can be dropped several times without breaking (the girls have tested this time and time again). There is an on and off switch on the handle (which is located at the top of the flashlight), there is also a button under the handle that you push and hold when the flashlight is on the "ON" position. If you don't keep the button pushed then after about 30 seconds or so the light will go off to save on batteries.
There is also a switch on the side of the flashlight that you can flip in order to get a red light or a green light. To me this is what makes the flashlight great, the girls love to make things change colors by shining their light on it. Since they received the Playskool My First Flashlight, they no longer have to settle for just shinning a white light on things, you now have the option of making the light white, green or red.
The flashlight takes 2 C batteries which are placed in the back of the flashlight, unlike regular flashlights where you have to unscrew the light and put the batteries in that way. There is a screw you have to take out and then you push the little plastic piece (that the screw was screwed into) up, and that pop's out the storage bin for the batteries to be placed into.
This is a fun toy for kids of all ages. My girls love to take it to bed with them in order to scare monster's away, or just to use it for the light. My oldest daughter hates to be in the dark, with this flashlight she has the security she needs and I don't have to worry about running the batteries out in one night because she left it on, since it will shut off on it's own.
