| bonniesayers's Full Review: My First Flashlight |
In case there is another earthquake here in the State of California, each of my children can grab their Playskool® My First Flashlight to help guide their way among the ruins.
Since our State is now having problems in the power supply area with companies having no supply and borrowing from others the My First Flashlight will come in handy in case they zap our power off. This past Summer there were days that the power system was on overload with companies and residences using their air conditioning systems. For a few weeks there, at least once a week between 9:30m pm and 10:00 our power went off in the neighborhood. Once it was on a weekend and my son stays up late watching Animal Planet. He walked all over the house with his My First Flashlight inspecting every nook and cranny. He would not go to sleep until the lights came on so this helped divert his attention.
Both of the Playskool My First Flashlights are kept under the sink cabinet in the kitchen. An extra set of batteries are close at hand, being 2 “C” needed for each Flashlight.
The handle makes it easy for a youngster to carry around and shine the green, red or white light on the walls, in my face, or try to figure out why the television is not turning on. The top of the handle is a yellow button that slides to display the white light. Directly underneath the handle is a longer yellow bar that is the automatic off button.
To the side of the My First Flashlight is a yellow knob that when turned to the right displays red and the left is the green light. It does turn off automatically saving the life of the battery after thirty seconds. If you want to keep the light on you press the automatic off button while using the Flashlight, and once released it does turn off.
The end of the handle is the screw to release the battery holder. A Phillips® screwdriver is needed to open the screw and then either using a thumbnail or coin to move the battery holder to input the batteries.
There is a light bulb with the product when first purchased and to replace this you need to use a PR-2 light bulb. In the year we have had these there has been no need for either replacing the light bulb or batteries. The same section as the battery holder is where the bulb is located. A plastic cap comes off showing the light bulb, protector and bulb socket. The directions are shown how to do this if the need should arise.
This is for the age group of three and up with my almost six year old loving it. The toll-free number for questions on this product is located on the side at 1-800-PLAYSKL, the item no. is T44.04.
This is a nice gadget for both boys and girls who are preschoolers and older. This could easily fit inside a bedside drawer for emergencies and peace of mind. For bedtime stories this could be utilized with the lights turned down or dimmed and use the lights as part of a story that might be scary or just for fun.
If your child likes to play in the yard this is good for searching for bugs when darkness falls or it is a cloudy day. During trick or treating we used this while standing outside. My son liked to flash the colors on the tricksters.
Another idea would be to keep one in the garage and the vehicle for parks, camping trips and visits to other relatives. If you have an attic or basement a child can use this to get into these rooms for the first time.
You could also keep the Playskool My First Flashlight in the bathroom for nighttime and just in case you need that light. This would make a great gift for anyone who has children in the home and for birthday presents for kids age three and up. If someone has a family day care in their home this is a useful tool and also for a junior boy scout or girl scout. A grandparent can have one of these in their home for when children visit and want to check out their surroundings.
