| grygomaca's Full Review: NEC PlasmaSync 50PD2 50 in. EDTV-Ready TV |
My husband's sales pitch to me was, "It's the most high-tech, latest and greatest type of tv!" I asked, "How much?" and he withheld that information until I saw it for myself.
Why We Bought The NEC PlasmaSync 4210 42" Monitor:
Aside from the fact that my husband works for a large computer corporation who was selling a few brand new plasma's for 1/2 their value, we purchased it because...well... no... that's the only reason. He researched it beforehand, comparing it to Sony and basically just trying to find out about the warranty and where the nearest service location is. As a matter of fact, NEC is located in Itasca, IL which is not far from us. Our primary reasons for buying the plasma were:
1. My husband has to have the latest and greatest
2. He'd be the first to have one
3. It was an irresistable deal, a one time opportunity
4. It delivers an unimaginable picture (the first time I saw it, I was truly AMAZED)
5. It's much smaller, thinner and lighter than our monster on wheels (Sony 61" projection tv)
What You'll Get:
An 87 pound, 3.6" thin 42" monitor, remote control, power cord, RGB cable and Macintosh adapter. The screen size measures 36.3" wide, 20.4" tall and 42" diagonally.

The monitor has the following buttons: power, input select and buttons to increase and decrease volume (monitor itself does not provide sound). There is also a power/standby indicator light. The remote control has a backlight, which is wonderful. It has has 26 buttons in total, with a backlight switch, a jack for connection to the monitor (to operate without batteries) and the signal transmitter.
The remote control has buttons for controlling the sharpness, brightness, color, tint, contrast and it also has buttons to access the on-screen menu (OSM) and to select the input. You can do advanced things via the OSM, such as checking the frequency and polarity of input signals, setting the video signal, sound, screen adjustment, power management, color system and more. The remote works within 23 feet of the monitor.
Why We Love It So:
The NEC PlasmaSync 4210 literally has a crystal clear screen. You really won't understand how different it is until you actually see it. And going from a rear-projection tv, the difference is like night and day. The compromise in size, going from 61" to 42" hasn't even affected us one bit. The superb quality makes up for it! When I watch a DVD on the monitor, it almost seems like I am looking through a window, the objects and people just look more lifelike than my eyes believe. It's difficult to describe how dramatic the difference between a plasma screen and a regular tv screen. I really mean it, words don't give this monitor grace, you have to see it with your own eyes.
How To Display It:
This monitor can be displayed upright on a wall, upright on a tabletop stand or face-down on a ceiling.
Installation:
This can be tricky if you aren't familiar with audio/video connections. You can connect this monitor to your VCR/laser disc, DVD player, IBM VGA/Mac and speakers (or receiver if you have surround sound). The manual offers helpful direction if you need it as far as where to connect each item and
Maintenance:
The only required maintenance for this plasma monitor is occasional cleaning using a soft, dry cloth.
Optional Equipment:
Optional equipment includes a wall mount unit, ceiling mount, tilt mount, tabletop stand, LCD touch-screen learning remote and others.
In Conclusion:
This NEC 42" plasma monitor is so unreal! The picture is truly perfect, just check it out and see for yourself. It is unparalleled! It's one of a kind, so outstanding and so worth the full price! If you want to be a trendsetter, buy this monitor. If you want to watch your favorite DVD's on the clearest, smoothest screen ever...buy this monitor. If you want to save some floor space and want the perfect tv, buy this NEC monitor. It certainly is expensive, but it will last forever and it will change the way you watch tv and movies.
