| rhuston's Full Review: Neuton Cordless Electric Lawn Mower Em 4.1 |
Ive had my Neuton mower for almost 2 years now. We decided to buy an electric or battery powered mower because we have gotten tired of gasoline mowers. They are loud, smelly and environmentally unfriendly. After reading scads of online information about electric mowers, we settled on the Neuton, mostly because of reviews from this site.
Ordering it was easy. Delivery took about 7 days (all the way across the country). Assembly was easy with the provided instructions. I recognize that some people are less mechanically inclined and may need to call for assistance but the process was easy enough for most people that I know. Like with nearly any task, a bit of patience and willingness to actually READ the instructions will go a long way.
Once the Neuton was assembled, I realized that I should have put the battery on to charge FIRST. So, here is my first advice: Race home, open the box, find the battery and put it on to charge. Now, relax, read the instructions and start assembling. Its a big battery (capacity wise) and will take some hours to charge. You should probably give it until tomorrow.
Now that your machine is assembled and your battery is charged, it is time for some fun. Ok, fun may be going a bit too far but hey
it is a heck of a lot more fun than the gas mowers we used to have.
Insert the key, slide the safety switch and pull the hand grip
the Neuton hums to life and you are cutting. It rolls very easily so the fact that it is not self-propelled is not an issue. Being person propelled allows you to set the comfortable pace that you want.
We use the grass bagger and are quite pleased with how easy it is to remove, empty and replace. None of these steps require any real strength. It can also be set up to mulch but we have never used that feature. It is too wet here, most of the time, and mulching makes a mess. Even when our grass is damp, again most of the time, the bagger works quite well and the wet grass wont rust out the deck of this mower, unlike our past gas mowers.
Because the mower is so light, the single control height adjustment is very easy to use. Pull it away from the mower and push it down to raise the height (up to lower).
We have a relatively small lawn and can mow a number of times on one charge of the battery. We put it on to charge every third use (or so). It has never actually run out so it is possible we could get quite a bit more out of it. We just didnt want to get caught in the middle of the next mowing without juice. Of course, someone with a lot more mowing to do could just keep spare charged batteries. For us, there was just no point.
No maintenance issues to report. Nothing has broken and I dont expect that anything will.
All in all, we are extremely happy with our purchase and heartily recommend this mower to anyone who is looking to be a little more green.
