Pros: Cook one or two eggs in just seconds. Easy to clean
Cons: Cook up to two hockey pucks in just seconds. Critical instructions hidden inside packaging.
The Bottom Line: Good if you're in a hurry, but experimentation is necessary to determine correct cooking time. No substitute for properly poached eggs.

| songfrog's Full Review: NORDIC WARE 2-Cup Microwave Egg Poacher |
The Nordic Ware Microwave 2 Cavity egg poacher promises "up to 2 perfectly poached eggs in your microwave oven." I can attest to that, excepting maybe the part about "perfect."
This product works satisfactorily IF directions are followed precisely. That may be part of the problem. Accompanying the model I bought (for under $2 from the world's largest retailer) was a chart on the outside of the package that suggested cooking times for 600, 650, 700 and 750 watt microwaves, but not 1000 watt models. Inside the package, and easy to overlook, were additional "fine print" instructions that could make the critical difference between success and disappointment.
At 1000 watts, hockey pucks can occur without warning, as very short cooking times leave little room for error. I discovered experimentally that 48 seconds for one egg was about right for my microwave. A variation of less than 10% either way (i.e., about 5 seconds) left the egg either runny or rubbery.
Notice that, if you cook only one egg, the other well should be partially filled with cold water. This additional water absorbs some of the microwave energy and slows the cooking time a little bit, making it (slightly) easier for you to control the results.
This product can be cleaned in the dishwasher, but a quick swish with a soapy sponge is generally all that is needed. Tip: a quick spritz of cooking spray makes eggs easier to release and speeds cleanup.
I've had much better results with the NordicWare microwave egg cooker. This product makes boiled eggs rather than poached eggs. It's slower--eggs cook in 5-6 minutes versus 45-90 seconds--but results are more pleasing and predictable. Directions even indicate cooking times for soft, medium and hard boiled eggs. No preparation is required; you don't even have to pierce the shell. Up to 4 eggs can be cooked without any adjustment in cooking time. And since only water touches the cooker, there is no cleanup required. I paid the same giant retailer less than $6 for the egg cooker.
