You would think that the government would have better things to do than to sit around and mess with people who want to take an over the counter product to lose weight and get some extra energy. Then again, when you have bone heads like Rick Collins [author of Legal Muscle: Anabolics In America] running around slinging out advice about anabolic steroids to anyone that will listen it sort of ruins a good thing for everyone. When people started abusing ephedrine everyone acted like this was “the white devil” - that over night this product was taking over American and killing people. I hate to break it to people but it’s been used for hundreds of years by people. I still find it funny that the government is wasting millions, if not billions, of dollars testing products and doing raids on stores that are selling ephedrine containing products on some type of modern day witchhunt. That’s all it is when you look at the bottom line. One store wants to ruin another one so they call the FDA and DEA and say that Joe Blow is selling some product with ephedrine in it and they don’t even bother to check it out - they just swoop down and cause a lot of trouble. If you think this is a joke or I am making it up, do a web search for the subject of “ephedrine raids” and you’ll see exactly what I am talking about.
Midnight Stallion was a product that came out when all the ephedrine controversy was going on and it was supposed to be a product that helped switch people over from products that contained pure ephedrine to products that contained the by-products of ephedrine, ephedra and comparable products like kola nut, guarana and yohimbine]. Since I’ve used pretty much every NVE product under the sun I couldn’t pass up getting a bottle of this although I really wish I would have gotten more when I had the chance. In a lot of ways this is like a beefed up version of Stacker 2 Lite but it gives you the power of Stacker 2. The only drawback to this formulation is that if you take it every day for more than a week you will build up a tolerance to it and you will need to take two capsules instead of one but that holds true for almost every energy enhancer on the market. Learn to rotate your products so your body doesn’t get too used to one formulation and you’ll be fine.

As I said, this was introduced to try and get consumers to switch over to a ephedra like product that would comply with laws regarding ephedrine and ephedrine by-products. Since I take a lot of energy enhancers when I am in a cutting phase and my food intake is limited I want to make sure that the things that I am taking are going to work, aren’t going to dehydrate me and will help to control my appetite. Since this contains a nice blend of herbs and organic products there’s nothing that is going to make you go shooting through the ceiling if you take one or two but if you take more than that you are running a real risk of increasing your body temperature, dehydration, heat stroke, heart attack and yes, even death. I guess I shouldn’t put the gloom and doom stuff at the start of a review but this isn’t something that people should be screwing around with if they don’t do some research first. It amazes me that people spend so much time reading the side of a cereal box but buy this stuff without knowing what’s in it or what it does.
This isn’t going to give you that powerful rush that you got from anything that had ephedrine in it - that is the brutal truth. I can still remember feeling like I could conquer anything when I took a Stacker 2 or Kranker [I am still hoarding a bottle of that!] - you will get a nice rush from this but it isn’t anything near what you got from the stuff that was out a few years ago before the ban took effect. As far as jitters, you will get some nervousness if you are taking this on an empty stomach but it isn’t anything that a glass of water or a few crackers wont take care of [most of the time the nervousness is from not having enough liquids in your system or a completely empty stomach]. If you take these and notice that the nervousness is an ongoing thing you might want to eat a small meal or have a protein bar an hour or so before you hit the gym. If you are worried about the nervousness or it gets out of control and escalates into what feels like a panic attack, discontinue using this and call your doctor.
This can cause some serious side effects if you exceed the suggested dose of one capsule with a maximum of three a day. I only take one of these a day because if I take it any later than two in the afternoon I do have some trouble falling asleep. If you are pregnant or nursing then this is something that you should avoid at all costs. You should read the warning label on the bottle before you take this because it contains information that you need to know. If you have any preexisting medical condition that requires you to take medication for diabetes, heart problems, bladder issues or any type of liver function then you will want to check with your doctor before you start using this. This shouldn’t be used as a replacement for sleep either; a lot of teens are getting products like this so they can cram for tests or stay up and party all night, that is a recipe for disaster.
Price
These come packaged in bottles of twenty but you can also get them in blister packs that contain two capsules. The bottles cost about ten dollars a piece but they could cost more if you are buying them at a place that’s trying to rake people over the coals. The blister packs cost about two bucks no matter where you buy them but these are pretty hard to find these days. NVE usually has the blister packs out when the product is first released for people to give them a try then they stop packaging them that way so people will buy the bottles. Ten bucks for twenty doses isn’t that bad - I’d pay .50 cents a day to have extra energy and something that will cut my appetite down to next to nothing. These are almost impossible to find these days so if you walk into a store and see them, pick up a bottle because chances are the next time you are there they are going to be gone.
My Two Cents
Since I have my soap box out about ephedrine and ephedra products I want to set the record straight. I never said that this stuff was safe for everyone to take nor did I ever say that it wasn’t dangerous. Look at it like this - anything in mass quantities will kill you - that goes for water, oxygen and spinach - anything. People started buying ephedrine and making illegal drugs from it and yes, I can see limiting how much one person can buy but banning it because some moron took ten pills instead of 1 and then went out and did calisthenics or participated in a baseball practice wearing three layers of clothes to try and lose weight .. [I could go on and on but I won’t] ...all it takes are a few bad apples to ruin it for everyone that used the products safely for years. It makes me long for the “good old days” when you could still buy Mini Thins at a 7-11 for three bucks a bottle. You can read my full rant about the ephedra controversy here... The Bottom Line
If you have tried products like Kranker and Xenadrine and liked the rush that you got from them then you might want to try looking for this product. You will want to make sure that it is the NVE formulation of Midnight Stallion because there are some knock offs out there that contain some of the same ingredients but aren’t the same product. If you stick to the suggested dose and don’t exceed three capsules a day [which is a lot for even me] you should be in good shape. If you have other energy enhancers around you can cycle these with them so your body doesn’t build up a tolerance to them. These might be hard to find but if you are looking for something that is going to give you extra energy, control your appetite and not tear up your stomach then these are well wroth looking for.
You have to remember that this is a stimulant and if abused you will have some serious side effects. If you are under the age of eighteen then chances are most legit places won’t sell these to you - and they shouldn’t.
