The Bottom Line: keeps you interested with every turn of the page

I don’t know why it took me so long to write a review of this book but I guess I got hooked on the series.

Let me tell you what got me started.

First of all, I thoroughly enjoy reading books by Nora Roberts so when I realized she also wrote as J.D. Robb, I knew I just had to try that different style of writing of hers. It wasn’t a mistake.

In this book, Naked in Death, she introduces our heroine, Eve Dallas, Lieutenant of Homicide in the New York Police and Security Department.

Dallas is called in to investigate the brutal murder of Sharon DeBlass, granddaughter of Senator DeBlass, whose body was found in an apartment in an area known as Prostitutes’ Walk. Sharon DeBlass was a Licensed Companion – which has Dallas wondering if her last client was the killer.

Although Dallas meticulously checks every inch of the crime scene, she finds no fingerprints, no footprints, not even one strand of hair. What she does find is a not from the killer placed beneath the cooling body of the Senator’s granddaughter. On that note, the killer placed only three words.

“One of Six”

He’s made it obvious he plans to kill again – but when, where and who? It doesn't take long for Dallas to realize his targets: Licensed Companions.

While Dallas checks every lead and every clue, her investigation takes her to Roarke Industries where she meets the man who started this multi-billion dollar empire.

Although sparks are flying rampant between Dallas and Roarke, he soon becomes a suspect in the murder. Dallas’ heart tells her he’s innocent but the clues tell her a different story.

Roarke is a handsome rogue who has a very shady past and finds himself completely infatuated with Dallas whose past is a mystery to everyone who knows her. She’s a loner who has problems with relationships. She finds making friends difficult and suffers from horrendous nightmares. Her mysterious past and nightmares helped make her one of the toughest homicides cops in News York. It also makes her more determined to find the killer of Sharon DeBlass – even if it means rejecting the attraction she feels toward Roake and put him in jail.

As the killings continue, each clue brings the investigation closer to putting Roarke behind bars. Each interview with him, brings emotions to Dallas she never knew she had. The more she gets to know him, the more she believes he’s innocent. The more she believes it, the harder she must work to prove it.

She’s a tough cop, hooked on caffeine and chocolate and now .. Roarke! But there is another problem. Roarke doesn’t know her past. Can he break down the shield she’s wrapped around herself? And if he does, can he handle it?

This is a powerful, fast moving story that combines mystery and romance and the action doesn’t stop from one page to the next.

You’ll laugh at the banter between Dallas and Roarke. You’ll cry along with her during her hideous nightmares. You’ll sigh when you feel the electricity between these two powerful people. Once you finish this book, you’ll want more – more of Dallas and Roarke.

Naked in Death is the first book in J.D. Robb’s …. In Death series and it’s the first story you shouldn’t miss.

While you will enjoy every page of this book, I must warn you that the first chapters will be a bit tough to get through. That’s because the …in Death series takes place in the year 2058 where you can get your meals from a preprogrammed “autochef”, put your car on autopilot and if the traffic get too congested, hit the “vertical lift” button and rise above it.

Once you get used to living in the future, you’ll absolutely fall in love with Eve Dallas, Roarke and the people who work in the New York Police and Security Department.
