Hiking in Style with a Nalgene Grip & Gulp
Written: Jul 23, 2012
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Perfect size for children, BPA Free, and Multiple Colors
Cons:None
The Bottom Line: Buy the right color, purchase a double gated carabiner, and maybe buy the accessory lid for little kids and you are ready to go.
Hiking in Style with a Nalgene Grip & Gulp A review of the Grip-N-Gulp Water Bottle Children (12 ounce) I recently went hiking with my girlfriend and her soon to be four year old daughter and I decided to prepare ahead of time by bringing some extra fruit snacks, a brand new pink water bottle for her daughter and a carabiner to hold the said water bottle to my MULE Camelbak hydration pack. It was an instant hit with her daughter and the pink variation of the Grip N Gulp helped too as it was one of her favorite colors. Why You Need One: These water bottles are the right size for children with easy grips on the bottle itself and a rubber lid with vibrant colors. The “straw” or “sipper” is hard and allows just enough water to be released for those still learning to control their motor skills. However, you can easily remove the rubber valve from the inside for bigger kids for greater water flow.
Other Details: I love the large “O” design on the lid which makes it a great grip point when grabbing the water bottle but also a great carabiner connection. I was able to clip a medium size double gated carabiner onto the water bottle with no troubles and then clip it to the loop on the top of my MULE Camelbak hydration pack so that it rested in the open face pocket for quick access.
I like that it is a hard plastic water bottle as it avoids being crushed and thereby leaking water. The clear container also helps to see if the bottle is dirty or running on empty without a closer inspection. The bottle is BPA free to avoid any potential health related issues. In addition, it is top rack dishwasher safe. However, I recommend only placing the bottle in the dishwasher as rubberized products tend to scrape and eventually wear off so I usually hand wash the lid. You can also purchase a lid accessory to keep the sippy straw portion clean while hiking or playing. Lastly, the bottle has measure marks on the side to help you if you are mixing a drink or gauging how much water is left. In The End: It is a great multi-purpose durable product that works and keeps on working for years to come. Be sure to wash the bottle before use to rinse any particulates and plastic smells away. There are a handful of vibrant colors in both the children’s 12 oz bottles and the adult Nalgene water bottles making it a perfect matchable accessory gift for your girlfriend, or in my case, my girlfriend’s daughter. I purchased mine at Sport’s Authority for full retail price, which was $7.50 plus tax.
I highly recommend this bottle - hands down it is a 5 out of 5 star product.
