Walk on Nature's Path with confidence

Written: Sep 11 '09 (Updated Sep 11 '09)
Pros:HEALTHY ! Hazardous-chemical free ! Tasty !
Cons:A little on the expensive side, stock up when on sale.
The Bottom Line: A great source of Omega 3 and 6. Stands up to milk for a long time. Tastes fantastic ! Chemical free ! Stock up when on sale, though.

Have you ever thought about what you eat ? Do you enjoy most of the foods you eat ? Well I do think about what I consume and most of the time it is enjoyed. However, with all the cost-cutting and slacking off of American manufacturers, sometimes foods are laced with hazardous chemicals. But not this breakfast, or anytime of the day, cereal. This is genuine good-for-you FOOD !

Me and my family look for healthy, sustainable foods that keep us going for as long as possible while at the same time we also seek that which tastes good. I worry about the added dyes for color, texture and even taste enhancement and cringe most of the time as many products seem to contain some of the stuff that is hazardous to our health. So as I look to labels and the internet for reliable information on my foodstuffs, I am grateful for Epinions where I can share, on this platform, the awareness of good versus bad foods to choose from.

Nature’s Path Organic Flax plus Red Berry Crunch cereal is one of the good for you foodstuffs a consumer such as you and I can feel good about eating and serving to our family. In a 300 gram or 10.6 ounce box of cereal there are roughly five ¾ cup (55grams) servings available unless your kids, spouse, partner or self eats more or less per serving.

According to the box, it is a “tasty, wholesome and very well red” type of cereal because of the inclusion of actual dried strawberry and raspberry bits. These are not molded chemicals resembling fruit, they are real dried but still processed strawberry and raspberry fruit pieces. Both the raspberries and strawberries are organic. *This means that from an ecological perspective four specific items are addressed by Natures Path. The soil the grains are grown is enriched and drought resistant; in growing it the way they do less soil erosion and groundwater pollution exists; and of course there is an improved farm biodiversity when it can sustain such practice and thrive.

I am glad that Nature’s Path has the raspberries because they are loaded with naturally occurring compounds such as bioflavonoid and antioxidants along with dietary fiber, folic acid and vitamins A, E and C. The strawberries are loaded with fiber, vitamin C, folate, potassium, bioflavonoid and antioxidants.

The bioflavonoid is a flavonoid broken down into a smaller substance. According to a website I looked at on bioflavonoids, it read “Many flavonoids are added to food in order to promote health by strengthening capillaries and other connective tissues in the body. Other functions such as healing properties of anti-inflammatory, antihistaminic, and antiviral agents are also examined in the use or addition of this to what we eat and drink.

An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing down or preventing the progression of oxidation of other molecules. A reaction occurring in the oxidation process is one that produces free radicals which begin a chain reaction that damages good cells. The antioxidants deters this process by removing free radical intermediates.

The organic oats used in this product are a source of soluble and insoluble heart-healthy fiber with complex carbs that help to provide sustained energy. Wow can Nature’s Path Organic Flax plus Red Berry Crunch cereal be the one that can deliver this when I have risen from sleep, rather comatose-like fascimile, and get me jump-started ?

You Betchya !

Nature’s Path Organic Flax plus Red Berry Crunch cereal offers the real fruit but is also rich in fiber from the organic flax seeds and organic oats and has Omega-3’and 6’s. Because flax seed is natures finest storehouse of rich Omega 3 fatty acids that are very good for our bodies, it is the 5th most concentrated ingredient in here.

This is one of the good for you foodstuffs a consumer such as you and I can feel good about eating and serving to our family. In a 300 gram or 10.6 ounce box of cereal there are roughly five ¾ cup (55grams) servings available unless your kids, spouse, partner or self eats more or less per serving.

My day does not always begin with morning, sometimes its noon or later depending on when I actually fell asleep. So I have to engage in an entertaining eye-opening experience and sometimes the box of a product is a great place to start. This cereal box is a great advertiser of the product with the front showing huge crunchy flakes surrounded by clusters and real red fruit in a big silver spoon.

It is red with lettering using the colors green, brown and dark maroon to entice the consumer that this cereal is a body-system special. Even the very bottom flap carries a message about one of the ingredients, this box had the quote “strawberries are the angels of the earth, innocent and sweet with green leafy wings reaching heavenward,” penned by Jasmine Heiler obviously someone important enough to the products motto, to quote and feature her.

This Epinioners opinion of taste:

I like it but not for a daily cereal choice, it takes a lot of masticating and chewing for me right when I rise from slumber is not my cup of tea, erh well coffee, ya know what I mean? So, I eat this perhaps later in the day or maybe just three times a week which some other brand in-between. It is sweet from the fruit but equally from the nuggets of clustered organic brown rice flour and rolled oats with the evaporated cane juice and large bran flakes offering a zesty oatsy mouthwatering experience when cold milk is splashed on it.

This Epinioners opinion of cost:

If it is on sale, I stock up on this brand; otherwise if Nature’s Path is regular priced, I find it is a bit high. Although in this day and age of tossing chemicals to make foodstuffs go longer, this one gets none of that. Its strictly natural without the help of preservatives so you have to eat it faster than most of those sugar and arsenic laced commercial brands of junk cereal.

This Epinioners opinion of standing up to milk (and sensitive teeth):

Oh this particular cereal is one that definitely stands up to milk for what seems to me, the longest time in the day. I have sensitive teeth folks but I would like to still enjoy some crispiness but also get towards the soggy milk-laden yumminess. Not happening too quick with these clusters, as with the flakes. They absorb faster but don’t retain as much as one would hope so your clusters stay very hard while the flakes get semi-palatable. Even adding a little hint of vanilla-flavored soy milk really does not quicken the absorption process. I find this information useful should you have sensitive teeth and would want to know this, so I state my preference or lack thereof. This stays palatable but not too chewy.

This Epinioners overall recommendation:

I do recommend having one or two boxes of this standing up in the pantry cupboard because it makes a great snack dry and does work well with coffee or tea for breakfast--or whenever you rise from glorious slumber as I roll out of bed around noon. I find it a great alternative to heavy start-the-day menu choices such as scrambled eggs with bacon or steak or sausage or pancakes or even those glorious grapefruit wedges and a cup of cottage cheese !
