So, last year my husband and I had a brand new house built. Nice tile, upgraded carpeting, and nice new furniture. At the time, it never crossed our minds that we would ever get a pet.
Introducing, Manchu, our new Chinese Foo puppy (link between the Chow and the wolf). He is absolutely adorable (so cute, you can't even get mad at him for being naughty!). He was pretty well behaved right off the bat. He has yet to poop anywhere in the house. And he almost always waits to pee outside. But once in a while, he decides that the carpet (our nice, new beige carpet!) looks an awful lot like the grass out back! He'll just trot around, and before you can blink he's got the stance and the pee is already dribbling out! Now, he is still a very young puppy, but he must be mature for his age because it seems like he does this to mark his territory as opposed to just being an ignorant and not fully trained puppy.
Enter Nature's Miracle. The odor remover that the pet store recommended to us. Since I am a very anal person (I fully admit that), I don't quite follow the instructions on the bottle to a 'T'. I have my own method and it seems to work pretty well:
1. I pour a little water over the urine to dilute it and make it a little easier to soak up.
2. I have super absorbent sponges that I bought at a home show, I use these to soak up the mess. This special sponge will actually draw the moisture our of your carpet, I can't think of what it is made of, but it is a life saver.
3. I repeat and pour more water and then I soak it up again.
4. Then I saturate the area with Nature's Miracle.
5. Let sit for about 3 minutes.
6. Use super absorbent sponge to soak up most of moisture, I don't let it get too dry, I want a small amount of Nature's Miracle to remain in the fabric.
7. Then I use a couple sprays of Febreeze or Bounce Fabric Refresher on top.
My puppy has had increasingly fewer "accidents". And even though he stiff sniffs around the carpet, he has never found his marked spots. I know this is a complicated way to use this product, but I'm not fond of the idea of having a saturated carpet needing several days to dry (as the instructions on the bottle suggest). This is my alternative. And it works pretty darn well!
