macandjay's Full Review: DeLorme Earthmate Car GPS Receiver
I am a first time GPS user and elected the DeLorme Earthmate with Street Atlas 2004 USA. I am impressed with the accuracy of the GPS and ease of use. I use it with a new notebook(celeron 2Gz). The maps are good but with some mistakes - some newer highways not shown and some highways located incorrectly. Vehicle speed is right on. The unit is operating as advertised. In short, it is doing the job I ordered it for, which is to help plan cross country trips and maintain my location while traveling on highways in the US.
Most vendors are selling the GPS with the 2003 version of the software instead of the latest version so if it doesn't state it is the 2004, it isn't.
I purchased from GPSnow.com for $125 inc shipping and received it in 2 days.
I tried a regular install and had problems. I uninstalled and followed directions to minimize running programs during installation and performance was much improved. The interface is a bit cumbersome and other map software looks and runs better, but as stated, it was a lot cheaper than most other GPS units and doing what I needed.
