Pros: It's small and the software works with outlook.

Cons: The support for Vista is silly.

The Bottom Line: If you use Vista or ever plan to this unit will likely be rendered useless. Its a shame.

I first purchased the Neat Receipt Scanner when I first started my business and also was keeping track of medical receipts for my mother for whom I’d taken over financial responsibilities.
I found that I could scan receipts and that the software would read and accurately record the information on a receipt for review later. When there was a mistake it was easy to correct or add extra information in the software. Beyond this the software would also allow you to scan business cards and import all the data into Microsoft Outlook. It was amazing.
Then I bought a new Sony laptop with Vista Professional installed as the operating system. I tried to upgrade the laptop with the drivers and patches mentioned on the Neat Receipts web site. It was confusing and some of the steps in the instructions were not possible to perform on my machine. I’ve made several attempts to follow these instructions on occasions when I really was wishing I could use this scanner and software again.
This product is so cleverly packaged promoting this idea that it makes life easier, that it’s an easy product to use. But then they don’t provide the tech support necessary for it to continue working on the latest operating system. I want to keep these receipts and access to them for years. What if they finally write a simple patch that fixes everything….what’s the guarantee that they will not wait two years to upgrade their software to the next version of windows?
