Not all characters need to be extremely powerful in order to be effective. There are many times when the little guy is the one who gets the job done. And then you have the ones you just throw to the wolves. This is how Darkseid, lord of Apokolips, treats his foot soldiers. And the weird thing is that they are completely loyal to him and his cause. WizKids and NECA’s DC HeroClix: The Brave and the Boldshows just how far blind loyalty will take you.

Rookie Parademon Grunt is the lowest rung in Darkseid’s army. The Parademons do all the dirty work and attack you in a swarm. Everything that they do is in honour of their dark master. It doesn’t even matter that there are only four clicks of life (out of twelve) because these Parademons are relentless.

The Speed dial shows the ability of flight allowing the Parademon to be a good transport figure. Imagine a few of these sentries on your team and they are carrying Darkseid into battle. It’s an effective move allowing the Parademons to get the first attack while Darkseid finishes off the opponents. It helps that Charge is given for the first click allowing the Parademon to make a quick attack.

The Attack dial shows a decent +9 attack value for the first click. But the best ability comes with two clicks of Incapacitate. A great underestimated power for such an underestimated character.

His Defense slot has a good showing with 15-defense but he doesn’t have any defensive modifiers to help his cause. Willpower occupies the first click allowing Parademon to avoid “push” damage but that’s only if he manages to survive.

His Damage dial has a decent base-2 damage to hurt his enemies. However his Special Powers come into play for the entire slot. This is something that you want to utilize all the time because any little boost for this character is needed. The beauty of it is that he will sometimes be overlooked in favour of more powerful characters.

***Minion: Hordes of Apokolips (Special Powers): When a friendly character with the Apokolips keyword and a higher point value is within 8 squares, Parademon Grunt modifies its attack and speed values by +1.

Rookie Parademon Grunt is a good army building character. Many of these characters can be used on the board at the same time allowing players to create a formidable force. Besides Darkseid needs to have grunts do his dirty work before coming in for the kill.
