| disartain's Full Review: Neo Synephrine Spray 12 Hour Extra Moisturizing 0.... |
I wake up in the morning and can not breathe through my nose. My head feels like there is a band tightening ever so slowly putting increased pressure on my temples. I open my mouth to breathe through it, and realize that I need to seek relief. I take the antibiotic that the doctor has given me for the Sinus infection then head to the hot shower to drench my head under the running water trying to open my sinus passages. The shower has not worked now I guess it is time for the Neo-Synephrine 12 hour Extra Moisturizing Spray .
It takes around three days for the antibiotic to work and in that three-day period I use the nasal spray so that I can breathe through my nose. It shrinks the blood vessels in my sinus passages enabling the sinuses to drain, which then relieves the pressure on my head, cheeks, and nose.
When your sinuses are swollen from either cold or infection or allergies there is usually a headache that can not be relieved until the sinuses start draining.
I use this procedure for the three days until the antibiotics take over. First, I use saline nose drops to try to loosen any material in my nose or sinus passages. Then I use the Neo-Synephrine spray.
I take two Tylenol or Advil at this time to help ease the headache once my sinuses start draining.
The spray usually lasts about seven or 8 hours for me. I can only use it every twelve hours for three days. If I use it more then three days, I am in danger of getting a rebound effect from the medication. This means that my nose and sinus passages will be more congested then they were before I started using the spray.
Active Ingredients
O.O5% Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride
Directions
Adults and children over six years of age can spray two or three sprays into the nostrils every twelve hours as needed. Parents should not use this medication on the children under the age of six without consulting a doctor. Do not use more then twice in a 24 hour period.
Side effects
When using the spray you can experience burning, stinging, or sneezing, and an increase of nasal discharge. These are minor.
Use of this spray by more then one person may spread infection.
Do not use for more then three days (I explained why above).
Do not use without consulting a doctor if you have heart disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, of course high blood pressure, or enlarged prostrate gland which causes difficulty in urination.
Always read the entire label for warnings, and ingredients and directions on use.
I do not use this for my allergies I save and use it for a bad sinus infection; this is just my personal preference. Usually by the time the three days of use are up the antibiotics have kicked in and I am feeling better.
I have used the generic sprays but it is hard to find one that has the moisturizing action of Neo-Synephrine. I buy this medication two or three times a year.
This is add on information for one of my reviewers.
A lot of people take this medicine for allergies. I do not. I take it when I have a sinus infection. If I took it for allergies I would be using it everyday. A infection of the sinuses is not an allergy, it takes antibiotics to treat it.
All OTC and prescription medicines have an expiration date. Always look for the expiration date and make sure that the medicine is still good.
Rebound effect is a medical term that I used when I was a active nurse. It means that if you take the medicine over the three day limit, instead of the medicine making your nose or your sinuses open up,it has the opposite effect and makes you more congested.
I always throw away the bottle after I quit using it for the infection or cold, because there is germs on it that could re-infect you if the tip of the bottle has touched your nose.
Always wipe the bottle clean after use. Do not let more then one person use the same bottle, there is the danger of passing the cold germs.
I do not know how many uses you could get out of a bottle I would imagine quite a few, if you did not want to throw it away.
I hope this clarifys anything I left out.
