| Freak369's Full Review: Neopet Collectible Figurine - Aisha |
When I started playing at the Neopets website I got sucked into the Alien Vending Machine and the Nerkmids that you need to have to operate it. The first time I tossed one into the machine I ended up with a paintbrush [used to change your pet], about 15,000 NP [the currency used at the site] and some rare food items. After that I was hooked and ended up spending an obscene amount of NP trying to buy Nerkmids ... just like black tar heroin, you will never be able to recreate that same first high. After spending all the NP Id saved up in my bank I started hating the Aisha species; when you hit the Alien Vending Machine chances are youll see one of these cat like creatures after you deposit your nerkie. Truth be told, I have never been a fan of cats in general so it wasnt that hard for me to cultivate a true dislike of them. Even so, when I spotted a few of these on the shelf at Wal-Mart for a dollar a piece, I couldnt pass up getting them. As Ive said in the past, I am the type of person that will buy a bucket of rocks if there is a sale sticker on it.
Neopet Collectible Figurine Aisha
Like almost all of the other figures in this series, the Aisha is a really nice hard plastic representation of the Neopet species. Because it has long ears it is a little taller than others [a little over two inches] but this doesnt make it took larger than others when they are all displayed together. For the sake of the review I will say that my Aisha is a female, even though it is light blue it looks like a female to me. For all intents and purpose she is a carbon copy of the figures at the website. She has the long thin neck [with collar], tiny little eyes and is sitting on her hind legs. Because she is taller than the other figures she does tend to get knocked over easier but a small wad of poster putty on the under side of her body keeps her firmly affixed to almost any surface. Since Annabelle claimed that this figure was hers I made her promise that she would take good care of it and not toss it around. This is made of hard plastic with no movable parts but the ears can and will break if you are rough with it.
I have seen these online in a variety of colors but most toy sites wont be able to guarantee that you are going to be able to get a specific color when you place your order. Since I scooped these up at Wal-Mart for a dollar a piece I didnt have the luxury of picking out a color of my liking so I got stuck with a light blue one. The color wasnt the big of a deal with me because I knew that as soon as I opened the package Annabelle would be scooping it up for her small Neopet collection. Normally she is a Uni or fairy fan but she does think that the Aisha species is cute. Just as I thought, as soon as she saw it her eyes lit up and she snagged it. When I emailed a few Neopet fanatics that post to fan boards to ask them about different colors that this was issued in they let me know that they came in dark blue, light blue, red, white and green. If you want the Starry or Baby versions you will have to order the three pack of Aisha figures from Thinkway.
As I have mentioned in other reviews, this figure does not come with any TCG [The Card Game] cards or Rare Item Codes [redeemable at the Space Station]. The only perk that you get with this is a small black plastic base that you can put your figure on. Neopets is no longer making these so if you do come across them, be sure to grab a few. They were originally sold for $3.99 to $5.99 depending on where you shopped [online or retail stores] but I found them at Wal-Mart in the clearance aisle for $1.00 each. I wouldnt pay more than that for these because you dont get any perks with them and they dont do anything. I might pay full price for a rare Starry one or if I needed one to complete the series but thats pretty much the only time that I would do so. If you want to change the look of your Aisha you can paint them or use permanent markers [I suggest Avery GelWorks Metallic Markers] on them but once you do apply it, it is almost impossible to get off so make sure you know what you are doing.
The Bottom Line
Even though the Aisha isnt one of my favorite species from the site I couldnt pass up getting it when I saw the price on it. When you see an entire line of toys going into the sale or clearance section its usually a good indication that the manufacturer is discontinuing it. In my opinion this one isnt as cute as the Scorchio or Shoyru but for a dollar I couldnt leave the store without it. This is recommended for kids over the age of three but Id be a little more cautious with this one because the ears could break off easily. If you are a fan of the Aisha then this is definitely worth trying to find but if you are going to be shopping online make sure you read the details closely because there are several different Aisha figures on the market. This one is part of the Collectible Figurine series of individual characters and shouldnt be confused with the three packs or the ones that are larger in size.
As always, thanks for the read!
