Pros: Cuter than I thought it would be, nice color and detail, accurate accents.
Cons: Not all that colorful, ears and tail could break if handled roughly.
The Bottom Line: If you go ga-ga over Gelert's then this is the Neopet figurine for you!

| Freak369's Full Review: Neopet Collectible Figurine Gelert |
When I first saw the Neopet Figurines I passed on getting them thinking that the price would drop on them, well, the price did drop but the selection was picked through and I missed out on getting a majority of them. Lucky for me I found someone that was selling four of these figures; I only wanted two of them but I had to buy all four of them since the seller wouldnt divide up the lot. For the price of ten dollars [plus shipping] I ended up getting a Cybunny, Wocky, Moehog and Gelert. My streak of luck continued, a few days after I received the package from this seller I got one of those awesome mystery packages from someone. Postmarked from Arizona it contained two loose Neopet figurines; one of a purple Shoyru and one of a red Gelert. The blue one that I received first wasnt all that colorful, it was solid blue with only a small light blue splotch on the chest, the red one is pretty much the same thing; red body, light red splotch on the chest. Even though this lacks a lot of color like the Moehog or Cybunny, it has some really nice detail to it.
Neopet Collectible Figurine Gelert
When you compare this to other figurines in the series the one thing that really stands out is that this looks like an adult; some of the others like the Shoyru and Grundo look like they are the Baby versions. If you dont participate at the website you might not understand that statement. You can buy [or get them from a fairy] Baby Paintbrushes to change the look of your Neopet, these are pretty expensive but worth it if you like the Baby version of your pet. From what I read on Neopet fan boards there were plans to have two different lines in the figurine series; one for adult pets and one for babies; that helps to explain why the three packs have specialty pets in the Cloud and Starry variety. This figure is one of the solo figurines; this shouldnt be confused with the three pack figures or any of the larger ones. It doesnt talk, it doesnt walk, it doesnt do anything but sit there and look cute.
One of the things that really impressed me about this figurine was the detail that was added to the ears and tail, instead of taking the easy way out and just using a textured type design these features are sculpted so one ear sticks up in the air and the other flops over. The same thing with the tail, instead of giving it a little nub or bump it has a wavy tail. I guess some people might see these as cons instead of pros; the upside is that it has a lot of detail, the downside is that this makes it more susceptible to getting damaged if it is handled roughly. The figurine is made of solid plastic so you cant change its position but that goes for all the pets in this series from ThinkWay. If you are looking for something that has movable joints or flexibility, go with a plushie or some of the interactive pets. since these are pretty hard to find in retail stores, shopping online for them is one of the only other options outside of scouring the off site Neopet message boards and even then, you run the risk of getting ripped off since those transactions arent monitored.
If you want to get a Gelert of your own, eBay is a good place to start but you have to really check the listings to make sure that you are getting one of these figurines instead of something else. These had a suggested retail price of $2.99 to $4.99 depending on the type of store that you were in; places like Wal-Mart and Target had them for three to four dollars which was a little on the high side in my opinion. I ended up getting four different figurines for ten dollars plus shipping so when I added that to the $2.50 per figure price it came out $3.50 so I wasnt saving any money but I was able to get four figures at once. All of the figurines in this series come packaged in plastic tubes with a TCG card and black plastic oval stand. These do not come with cards that have Rare Item Codes on them [redeemable at the Space Station], if you see a site advertising these with Rare Item Code cards, they are either misinformed or lying.
The Bottom Line
These figurines are suggested for ages four and older because of the possibility of a child choking on them. Out of all of them, the Gelert and Shoyru would be the ones that I would be the most concerned about; they have body parts that stick out [wings for the Shoyru and the ears and tail for the Gelert] that could be chewed or broken off. Some people may look at these two and say that they pose less of a threat of choking because they do have the ornate body parts, that by having them they are going to be harder to swallow. How ever you look at the situation, its better to just keep them away from younger kids no matter what. If you are a fan of the Gelert species this makes for a nice little figure to have on top of your computer monitor when you are surfing the Neopet website looking for deals. It is a little bigger than most of the other pets because of the ears but its not that out of proportion that it dwarfs the others.
As always, thanks for the read!
