Ever see something in the store and think, Ehh, Ill get it next time. then you go back to get it and its gone? That was the case with a majority of the Neopet Collectible Figurines. I saw them at Wal-Mart but flat out refused to pay full price for them; when they finally hit the clearance section I was elated but there were a lot of them that were sold out. The Moehog species isnt something that appeals to me in the least; youd think that someone as strange as myself would be attracted to a hog with a mohawk but thats just not the case. Even so, when I saw him online as part of a four piece lot that someone was selling, I had to get him. Well, I didnt really have much choice, he came with the Cybunny, Gelert and Wocky. This shouldnt be confused with the three piece sets that were also put out by Think Way and Neopets; those are specialty sets that feature Cloud and Baby versions of pets. These are the individual Neopet Collectible Figurines packaged with a small plastic black base and collectible Neopet Trading Card.
Neopet Collectible Figurine Moehog
From what I have seen of these things online there are a lot of color variations to pick from but on the up side, they are pretty colorful. The one that I ended up with [I had no choice in the matter] is mostly light green with a series of black stripes down the back. The feet and tail also have black on them but the one thing that really caught me off guard was the pink snout and the pink on the insides of the ears. Maybe I missed that when I saw them at the site but it does give it a certain cuteness. Then there are the things that should appeal to me but dont; Im talking about the two tusks on its face and the small thin mohawk. When you compare this to the one that is shown at the site, this version looks more like a Baby version than an adult but I am not up on my Moehog species so that observation could be completely wrong. Bluntly, it is pretty hard to sit there and scour the pets to try and find a Baby version of this. Its one of the more colorful of the Neopet Collectible Figurines; most of them have one or two colors but this one has orange, pink, white, black and green.
This comes with a small black oval that you can use to set your mini Neopet on but most of the time they get tossed in the drawer since they do tend to fall off these stands easily. Part of that is because of the star design that is pressed into it, part of it is because some of the figures are top heavy. You also get a promo card from the Neopet Trading Card Game [TCG]; this one was some Shoyru card that I didnt have in my collection. I dont play the game nor do I buy the cards all that often but it is a nice perk. These come sealed in a plastic tube type container that isnt exactly easy to open. I was really surprised that this was in such good shape; the seller said that she had gotten them from a bargain bin [probably for a tenth of what I paid for them] so I was expecting the containers to be banged up or the TCG cards to be missing but everything was there. These are not poseable nor do they have any points of movement, in other words, what you see is what you get. One more thing, this stands almost two inches high so if you see it advertised as larger than that, it is either being misrepresented or it isnt a figure in this series.
Since I have mentioned this in other reviews of the Neopet Collectible Figurines, I am not going to go into a lot of detail about this subject. There are no Rare Items Codes in these, some people are placing misleading descriptions when selling these in auctions stating that these come with a code card that you can take to the Space Station to redeem for a rare item. These do come with a TCG card but that is completely different from a Rare Item Code card. Since these are not manufactured any more people are trying to get as much for them as they can; if the deal sounds too good to be true then chances are it is. The only way you are going to get a Rare Item Code is to buy an official Neopet product that advertises that it comes with one of these codes. People can and do sell the codes online [in groups] but I have heard more than a few people saying that the codes that they received from people were already redeemed. So please, if you are going to buy these figures online, buy them with caution.
Price
When these were being sold in retail stores they ranged from $2.99 to $4.99 depending on where you were shopping. Thankfully I didnt have to pay that much for this one; someone was selling a number of them at eBay so I ended up getting four of them for ten dollars plus shipping. Considering that these are almost impossible to find in retail stores these days, getting this one was nice even though the Moehog species is at the bottom of my list of favorite pets. The bottom line price was $2.50 but with shipping for all four it came out to about $3.50 for each of them, not that bad for something that you cant find in stores any more. If you are a fan of Neopets or of the Moehog species then this is worth trying to track down, especially if you have some of the other figures and want to add some color to your collection.
The Bottom Line
If I had the chance to buy this individually I probably would have passed on it then kicked myself later for not getting it so I guess it was a good thing that this came as part of a package deal. As I mentioned earlier, the person that was selling these opted to group them into a lot. This was not part of a multi pack so if you are going to try to get a bunch of them at once, good luck to you unless you come across the official prepackaged special figures and even then, those are pretty theme specific so theres a good chance you will end up with some duplicates. I cant say anything bad about this because it does grow on you after a while, that doesnt mean I am going to ditch the pets that I have to get one ... just that my initial thoughts of the species has changed a little bit.
As always, thanks for the read!
