Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Pirate Blumaroo Plush 6"
If you are a fan of the Neopet website and the Blumaroo is your favorite pet then this adorable plushie is something that you need to track down! I was lucky enough to find one at a local store for five dollars, that's less than half the suggested retail price of $11.99 that they were retailing for when they were first released. You would think that something that is retired would sell for more but I guess who ever priced them was thinking one thing, "I dont want to get stuck with a bunch of these so I better drop the price!". That's fine by me. I wasn't the only one stocking up on there, several moms where there chattering about how their kids got them hooked on Neopets and how they just had to have one of these stuffed Blumaroo's for their desk.
Neopet Six Inch Plushie Pirate Blumaroo
There are several different sized Blumaroos to choose from; this one falls in the middle of them all at a little over six inches. That is where a lot of the confusion comes into play with the online listings for them. Some sites are saying that they are six inches and some are saying that they are seven inches. The actual measurement is six and a half inches so neither are right but if they are ball parking the size then neither is truly wrong. What the difference? If the plushie has been squished down when it was shipped then it could be closer to six inches than seven, likewise once it has had some time to sit on a shelf it does fill out a little. There are mini Blumaroo Pirates and a larger twelve inch one to choose from but all three of them are retired so if you are going to get one, dont drag your feet about it. In case you were wondering, Neopets lists these as six inch plushies so if anyone should have the final say on what the actual size is, I would have to say it's them.
If you are familiar with the Blumaroo species from the Neopet website you will know that they are curious little creatures. This one has light gray fur with pink pads on his feet, nose and edges of his ears. The entire thing is super soft and the fur is not rough or clumpy. He comes wearing a small red bandana that is stitched on his head and a red and white striped shirt that is stitched [loosely] to his body. The gold earring is a nice touch but if you are getting this from a brick and mortar store there is a chance that it could be removed. There should be an official Neopet tag attached to his ear but as I said, if you are buying this in a retail store, there is a chance that it could be removed. Does this come with a redemption code for the Grundo Warehouse? Mine didn't but people have said that theirs did come with a code that is used to redeem for a rare item.
On a side note, almost all of the new six inch plushies come with a rare item code. There are some exceptions so be sure to check the Neopet website before you buy one or order one online so you know if it is worth the suggested retail price. Make sure this isn't for one of the other Blumaroo plushies or a plushie clip, these sell for less and are obviously not the same item.
When this was being sold in the Limited stores it had a retail price of $11.99; as much as I love Blumaroos and most of the other Neopet species, there is no way I would pay that much for one regardless of whether or not it came with a rare item code. Why? Because I am a bargain hunter and I would rather spend 1/3 of the suggested retail price and buy three of them than to pay full price and see it on clearance a few months later. Even though it is super soft, looks great and makes for a great gift, it is still a stuffed animal. Now, the Webkinz stuffed animals are worth that price because you get a years access to the website and some cool virtual items to get your pet started. If Neopets would go that route and dole out some truly rare items and give you something that warrants the price then I might consider buying something full price.
The Bottom Line
In case you want to get some other Blumaroo items, here are some others that you can find at participating Limited Too stores as well as at select online stores. The Baby Blumaroo Plushie is simply adorable and a must have for anyone that has a Painted Blumaroo; if you are a fan of the Baby Blumaroo then be sure to look for the Plushie Clip. This looks a lot like the ones that were released with the Mc Donald's promotion a few years ago however these are a little different in color. Both the Blue Blumaroo Charm and the Spotted Blumaroo Charm are retired but that just means that they are no longer made for Neopets, you can still find them at Limited Too stores as well as places that sell charms.
