Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Purple Grundo Plush 6 "
If you are a fan of the Neopet website then you will be familiar with the Grundo species. They are rather strange looking creatures with arched ears and a mischievous side. They are often associated with Dr. Sloth and the Virtupets Space Station but they do tend to pop up all over the site if you are lucky. I adopted a Grundo [flame6262] at the Adoption Agency and started zapping it with the Lab Ray; now it is a Desert Kiko but I am far from morphing it. Even though you cant do cool things like that with the plushie version of the Grundo, you can have a lot of fun with it if you are lucky enough to come across one in a retail store or online. This is the six inch Grundo; it was also sold as a pocket plushie [mini], ten and twelve inch plushie. All of them were cute and cuddly but this one is the one that looks best.
Neopet Six Inch Purple Grundo Plushie
First off this is a purple Grundo but it isnt a run of the mill purple Grundo. It is spotted Grundo. It looks cute and harmless but looks can be deceiving. There were a total of five different Grundo plushies released and all of them were adorable and worth collecting but the fifteen to twenty dollar price tag made it laughable to most people. Thankfully I was able to get one online for about twelve dollars total [including shipping] so I didnt get spanked on the price of it. This particular Grundo is no longer in production but you can still find them at selected toy stores or Limited II stores that elected to carry Neopet plushies. The color is vibrant and strong, just like the regular non-spotted variety of Grundo that is featured at the website.
One of the coolest things about this plushie is that you can bend the ears so they can have a couple of different expressions to them. The arms are a bit small and stubby but the legs are full; the mid section is filled with a soft pellet fiber but its not enough to keep the plushie from tipping over if you have it sitting down. There are no metal or wire pieces in the legs so it can not stand up on its own unless you buy a doll stand that you can pop it into to pose it. This does not make any noise and it does not require any batteries since there are no movable parts to it. A few sites have listed this as a talking variety of Neopet; there are Grundo toys that move or speak but this isnt it. This is a standard six inch plushie that looks great but doesnt do anything but sit there and look cute. Why does it cost more than other similar sized plushies? Rarity and the designs that were released played a key part in why they fetched more than others.
With the purchase of the plushie comes a Rare Item Code. This is redeemable for a rare item at the Grundo Warehouse. If you are having trouble finding the redeem area, use this URL: www.neopets.com/space/warehouse/prizecodes.phtml. When I redeemed this I received a Nova Cake that was worth about 8,000 NP. That wasnt a bad item to get and I sold it at the Trading Post for about 10,000 NP. The code will be in a small sealed pouch attached to the Grundos leg or ear. If the code is missing you can contact TNT [The Neopets Team] and they will help you get a replacement code. Please dont try to scam them in this regard. If you send them more than a few items that are missing codes they reserve the right to ask for your proof pf purchase [a receipt] as well as the store where it was purchased so they can investigate why things were being sold with missing or previously redeemed codes.
What is the average selling price of this plushie? I have seen it for as much as $20.00 and as much as I love the Grundo species, theres no way I would ever pay that much for one of them especially when you consider that this is only a six inch plushie, not one of the larger ones. Since this is no longer being made by Neopets some sites have jacked up the price of them saying that they are extremely rare. Yes, they can be a little hard to find but they arent what I would ever consider an impossible to find item. I paid twelve dollars total for mine and consider it a good deal; now all I have to do is collect the other 47 plushies and I will have a completed series.
The Bottom Line
I didnt start out as being a fan of the Grundo species but they did grow on me. This plushie is nicely done with big eyes, soft short fur and vibrant colors. This is suggested for kids ages six and older but use your own judgment in the respect. The Rare Item Code that comes with it is a nice perk, if you can find a ton of clearance items that have the codes with them you can get some pretty cool things at the website but be forewarned, there are people that will steal the code or buy the item, redeem the code then return the product. Seems like a lot of work to go through to get a virtual item for free but that is just one of the hundreds of Neopet scams.
