Pros: Awesome looking card, the first of the deck, high Magic and Intelligence.
Cons: Requires a Dark Neopet, low Strength compared to other stats and villains.
The Bottom Line: Whether you collect the TCG cards or actively play them "The Bat Thing" is a great card to have.

| Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Trading Card Game Battle for Meridell Holo... |
I'm the type of person that always roots for the underdog or the meanie; even when it comes to zombies, I always smile when they manage to pick off a human or two. In the Battle For Meridell there are a lot of 'meanies'; the biggest and baddest being Lord Darigan. The Bat Thing is loosely associated with the Dark Lord but unless you read through the Neopedia and do some research, you don't learn the full scope of the connection. This is a complex card to play and shouldnt be something that you just whip out and put into play if you are new to the game. I think I played this card three or four times at an event and thankfully the other person was a kind and gentle soul that didn't keep my card when I lost it.
Imagery: I love dark creepy things and in regards to the Battle For Meridell cards, The Bat Thing is one of the spookiest because not much is known about it. It is part Draik or Korbat? The large ears are gargoyle like but he seems to be cowering a bit, or is he just getting ready to attack? I like the purple that is added in the background; for once it isn't something that is restricted to gray, black and white when defining a villain. The Holofoil aspect of it is nice but I would have rather had this card without it and placed further back in the series of the deck. When you look at just the imagery of the card it is awesome but stat wise, it does leave a bit to be desired.
Deck Series: Battle For Meridell
Promo Card: No
This is not a promotional card; it is a Holofoil so there is a shimmer to it when the angle switches. Do not believe resellers that say that this is a rare card or that it is a promotional card. Promo cards have the word "promo" stamped on them, usually with a star in the background of the word. Promo cards have the word "promo" stamped on them, usually with a star in the background of the word. The cards are well made and in regards to the Holofoil ones, the card surface doesn't scratch or mar easily so you can enjoy playing with them without them seeing much damage providing that you store them properly.

Directions: This can be a tricky card to play because there are advantages and disadvantages to it. First you need to have a Dark Neopet to play this; the winner gets to search their deck for one of two cards; "Lord Darigan" or "Darigan, Redeemed". If that card is in the deck you can move it to your hand and shuffle your deck. This is a good stall card to play if you want to throw a curve at your opponent but if they defeat it, it could have some consequences against you in future arenas.

Other very cool cards in this series include:
3/140 - The Darkest Faerie
5/140 - Draik Soldier
6/140 - Ferocious Negg
25/140 - Moltenore
41/140 - Draik Skeleton
67/140 - Meuka
If you are looking to buy this card outright from a dealer you can expect to pay anywhere from .40 cents to $3.00 depending on where you are buying it and the amount of crap that the seller is trying to force feed you about how rare a card it is. I purchased three boxes of cards and ended up with five of these; usually I would end up with three or four cards so the extra one was a nice perk. One only was ever played in a tournament and the others were tucked away for safe keeping. The price on the Holofoil cards should go up a little each time a new expansion pack or series is released but don't count on getting rich from selling this card any time in the near future.
The Bottom Line
Because this is a Holofoil card and the first of the Battle For Meridell series a lot of people are trying to over charge for it and that take a lot of fun out of the actual game. The first and last cards of decks usually fetch a little more if you are selling them but I can say that either in his deck are extremely rare. What really got me interested in this card was the artwork and dark feel of it. Some people complained that this card was pretty weak in regards to the stats and in comparison to other villains; I won't argue about that but overall it is a nice card to collect especially if you are in it for the artwork and face value and not just the playability of it.
As always, thanks for the visit
