| Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Trading Card Game Battle for Meridell Holo... |
Regardless of whether you collect the Neopet TCG cards to play with, trade or just have to look at, there are some that are a definite cut above the rest. In the case of the Darigan Paint Brush the visual aspect of it greatly outweighs its game play. Why? The stats are low but you do get +2 for banking. It is a Holofoil card so it has a nice shimmer to it and that makes it something that ranks it as an "H" [Holofoil] as well as an "R" [rare]. I used to play the TCG but there are never any events in my area so I am perfectly content getting the cards when I can or trading with other Neopet addicts. If you are a fan of the Darigan at the website, rest assured that this will be one card that you will love to have for your collection, be it the cyber deck or real world version.
Neopet TCG Darigan Paint Brush 3/140
Imagery: Being a huge fan of the Darigan at Neopets when I got this card in a pack I was really thrilled because it is a beautifully done card. The dark rich purple flowing off the end of the brush looks great and the wings on it give it a true dark Darigan feel to it. In regards to the art of the card, the details are what really make it pop. The gold band around the middle of the brush and the Darigan claws at the top are two of the fine points that you can't full appreciate until you see this in person. There were some fake cards floating around a few years ago. They were crude copies that weren't as thick as the real ones and were not Holofoil. The Holofoil gives it a nice shimmer effect but it doesn't make the card any more sensitive than the others. You can still play this in an event without worrying that it is going to get scratched and as long as you protect them from getting bent or warped when they are not in use, you can get a lot of play from them before they start to look beat up.
Deck Series: Battle For Meridell
Promo Card: No
Strength: +1
Agility: +1
Magic: +1
Intelligence: +1
The playability of the card can be taken several different ways. It can be used to scare other players because it allows them to see a Dark Hero, Neopet or Villain card that you place at the top of your deck as a result of playing this card but at the same time it kicks you up +1 for all four levels. Some players will see this and think that it is something that needs to be played early in the game, to me, this is a mid game card because it can be used to set up players for a huge trump if you have the right cards to back up an attack. You don't need to be an experienced player to use this card but if you don't take a couple of minutes to pick out the perfect draw card, the most you are going to get from this is the +2 banking and +1 for stats.
Year Released: 2004
Series Number: 03/140
Item | Paint Brush | Dark
Directions: First you need to have a Dark Neopet, without that you can not use the card. You need to bank the card and get your two points credited towards the total of 21 to win the game. That then awards you the right to search your deck for a DE [Dark Experienced] Neopet, Hero or Villain that will get placed at the top of your deck. You do get to shuffle your deck for this is added to the top. Why is this a nice card to have? You get a +2 for banking and the +1 across the boards but at the same time you get to scare the boogers out of other players because they know what card is at the top of your deck and some of the fire power that you have. This can be a real scare tactic if you use it at the right time.
Quote: "This paint brush doesnt just change you on the outside"
If you are into playing at the Neopet website the Darigan Paint Brush can be used to paint 25 different species of pet including a very sinister looking Krawk and Shoyru. If you are looking to buy one at the website expect to pay a hefty price, they are currently selling for 1,400,000 NP at The Hidden Tower. If you are into collecting Darigan related items, there are some very cool things for sale like the "Darigan Hot Dog", "Floating Darigan Citadel" [an NeoCash Mall Item exclusive], "Lord Darigan Stamp", "Darigan Pteri Puzzle" and one of my personal favorites, the "Darigan Angelpuss Action Figure".
Other great Darigan themed cards from this set include:
"Darigan, Redeemed" 04/140, "Darigan Gardens" 36/140, "Darigan Skeith" 71/140, "Darigan Uni" 72/140, "Darigan Usul" 73/140
The Bottom Line
Since this is a Holofoil card it is something that everyone wants to have for their collection; it isn't extremely rare but from the decks, boxes and packs that I have bought or traded for I have only managed to get two of them. I really like the artwork of the card and the dark feel to it but there is no way I would pay more than .75 cents for the card from a broker or dealer. I have seen these selling for three to four dollars online and for that price, well, I would rather take my chances and buy a few packs of the Battle For Meridell cards and see if I could get it that way. Depending on how you play the card you can get a lot from it but even if you use it to get +2 for banking and +1 across the board, you are still getting a nice return on using this card in an event.
To get a better look at this card you can view it from your TCG album at the website or cut and paste this URL into your browser window:

The image here makes the card itself and the image of the paint brush look a lot darker in tone than it really is so if you havent seen this at the site, it is worth checking out to see the detail that it has.
As always, thanks for the visit
