Pros: 5 for banking, cool Golden Negg imagery, Holofoil card.
Cons: Low stats, two card ditch when played.
The Bottom Line: If you need to really catch an opponent off guard and have some cards to spare, the Golden Negg is a great card to play.

| Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Trading Card Game Battle for Meridell Holo... |
Holofoil cards in any Neopet TCG deck will almost always be worth more than regular cards. The only time I have seen an 'uncommon' or 'rare' card sell for more than a Holofoil is when it had extremely high stats or it was a combo card that could be played with or against something else. The Holofoil cards are well made and even though they might look like they are a little more sensitive than the regular cards they play well and as long as you store them properly when done they wont show signs of wear or play all that easily. Of course that opens the door to people charging obscene amounts for Holofoils but as long as you know what the fair market price is [or a suitable trade] you can protect yourself from getting ripped off.
Neopet TCG "Golden Negg" 9/140
Imagery: As much as I love Neggs and the fact that this will garnish you five banking points, this is a fairly boring card for a Holofoil. Usually the Holofoils are something that really wow you but this one is just sort of "there". Sure any type of Negg is cool to have and collect but I really expected more from this. The little golden droplets in the background are cute but when you stop and think about it, it's nothing more than a close up view of a Negg. It would have been cool to have Skarl or Kass taking a bite out of it or it being used in a Cooking Pot recipe but no one on the design team asked me for my opinion.

Even though this has low to no stats the only reason to ever collect or use this card in an event is the high banking. There aren't many five point item cards and if you can use even one of them in a contest you are going to really knock your opponent back a few steps or at the very least throw a wrench in their game plan. The downside is that you have to toss out two cards in order to get the five points. That's not a problem if you have spare cards but if you have painted yourself into a corner and don't have any that you can discard you might end up wasting the card altogether.

There are a number of reasons why this card is selling for about a dollar a piece; the first is that you get five points for banking, the second it is a Holofoil and the third it is a Negg card. If you thought Neggs were popular at the website, they have just the same amount of appeal in the TCG. While the imagery isnt anything that is going to knock your socks off the simple fact that there is a Golden Negg to be had says a lot about it.
Directions: To play this you have to select two cards from your hand, discard them and then bank the Golden Negg. Since this is worth five points it is an incredible card to have and can help get you that much closer to the goal of 21. The 5 bank is nice but if you rely on high banking cards that require you to discard at the same time you might find yourself with very few playable cards later in the event. I like to save this for when I am at 16 banking then end the game swiftly. That's just my way to play it, everyone has their own strategy.
Quote: "A farmer lucky enough to grow a Golden Negg can expect a fine reward from the king". Some Neggs are edible, some are used for battle and some are just cool to look at. The Golden Negg is sort of like the Golden Egg from Willy Wonka except there's no Golden Goose in Neopia.
If you want to build a deck with a Negg theme, there are some really cool TCG's that you can look for. Some of my favorites include the "Ferocious Negg", "Striped Negg", "Fish Negg", "Scorched Negg", "Starry Negg" and "Green Negg". If you like to collect Negg related things at the site there so many that you are going to spend a long time collecting them all. Some of the more common items include the "Partitioned Negg", "Candy Negg Assortment", "Rainbow Cybunny Negg Cookie", "Meerca Negg Bomb", "Neggitus Injection", "Power Negg Window," "Negg Stencil', "Rotten Negg", "Negg Candy Bracelet" and "Onion Quesadilla and Buttered Negg Waffle".
The Bottom Line
If you know that you can get away with using this card and have two extra cards that you can get rid of, you are that much closer to reaching the goal of 21 points to win the event. This is an easy card to play but it does require a little bit of planning and thought to use it correctly and so that it will be a good move on your part. You can't get a good look at the card here but if you visit your TCG album at the site you will be able to see a rather good view of it. Please keep in mind that this is a Holofoil so it will have a nicer appearance than what you see at any website. Then again, you could just cut and paste this URL intro your browser: http://images.neopets.com/tcg/c_meri/0009_HI01.gif
As always, thanks for the visit
