| Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Trading Card Game Battle for Meridell Rare... |
The Neopet Trading Card Game is still extremely popular; I don't play it any more but I am an avid collector of the cards from most of the series and expansion sets. I started collecting them a few years ago and have a ton of common ones, some extremely rare ones and then there are the ones that might not be worth a lot but I like the design of them. The Draik Skeleton is one of them. Why? It is a dark looking card of a Draik Skeleton and the stats on the card make it extremely nice to throw down if you have a Dark or Fire Neopet. While there are a lot of different Draik cards to collect and play in events, this is one of my favorites.
Draik Skeleton 41/140
The Draik species is a rare one at the Neopet website; your best chance of getting one is to get an egg and try to hatch it. You can buy a morphing potion but that can be extremely expensive. The Draik cards in the Battle For Meridell set are few and far between but the Draik Skeleton comes with some very nice stats that will ensure that you will catch your opponent off guard if you dare to play it. When is the best time to use this card in an event? That is hard to say, it all depends on what is on the board, what the other stats look like and the other levels. Given that this has a Strength of 15, there aren't that many common cards that are going to beat it in that arena.
Imagery: Being a fan of things that go bump in the night I knew that this card was one that I wanted to try to get duplicates of. It's a very dark card but the highlights on the Draik are really nice. You can't see much of the background but you can see the bricks of the dungeon. Some people like the Holofoil [hologram] cards with the Draik but I think that this one is nicer because its a little on the plain side but it is extremely dark and sinister looking. Most of the card is in black, white and gray but there are some hints of red here and there, more than likely a cast off of a fire that is out of the shot.
Deck Series: Battle For Meridell

The average selling price on this is about forty cents; that is in mint shape. The cards in this series are all well made and even if they have been used in tournaments they should hold up well if you store them properly. Is this a card that can see a lot of use? It isn't something that I would play a lot because it has its limitations and you need to have a Fire or Dark pet to use it. For collectors it is a must have because of the high stats and the image of the Draik but don't get sucked into paying more than fifty cents for it. From the three boxes that I purchased I found four of these, two of which were automatically tucked away for safe keeping.
Year Released: 2004
Series Number: 41/140
Directions: In order to play this card in an event or tournament you need to have a Dark or Fire Neopet. When the Villain loses an event you can untap all rivals or challengers. That can be a good thing or a very bad thing depending on where you are in the game.

If you want to collect some other very cool Draik cards, here are some suggestions to get you started:
5/140 Draik Solder [BFM]
20/140 Silver Draik Egg [BFM]
40/140 Draik Sentinel [BFM]
7/155 Draik Blacksmith [Darkest Faerie]
95/155 Tainted Draik [Darkest Faerie]

The Bottom Line
If you are a Draik lover or know someone that is, this is a nice card to get them even if they don't play the game. I know a lot of Neopet fans that have absolutely no interest in the game, be it online or at real life events, but they still buy a couple cards here and there. The Draik species is rare but that doesnt mean that they are unobtainable. The same can be said for the trading cards, especially this one. If you are dealing with a reputable seller or are planning on trading cards, don't fall for the "its a rare cared" line. I doubt I will ever sell or trade the two mint cards that I have saved; they are cool cards that look great and give the deck a nice menacing feel.
As always, thanks for the visit
