Pros: Nice artwork, +2 for banking, +4 for all stats, easy to play.
Cons: Must be tapped in on a Dark Neopet.
The Bottom Line: If you collect the darker, creepier card in the Battle For Meridell series, this is one you won't want to miss out on.

| Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Trading Card Game Battle for Meridell Rare... |
The first time I saw a Moltenore at the Neopets website I thought it was a mutated Scorchio or some other variation of a regular pet. I wasn't paying attention to the listing that it was a Petpet so that added to my overall confusion. The Zombie Moltenore is a great looking card and a must have if you are building any type of a Dark pet deck. Being a fan of most of the haunted, spooky and scary things at the site I wanted to get as many of these cards as I could; from the packs I purchased I managed to get four of them and then traded some other cards for two more [a total of six cards]. Even though this is classified as a 'rare' card by Neopets I didn't have any trouble getting multiples.
Neopet TCG "Zombie Moltenore 60/140
Imagery: In some ways this is a great looking card because of the pale zombieish [not a real word] color of the Moltenore but the background really leaves a lot to be desired. The little guy seems to have the zombie walk down pat but some fangs would have been a really nice touch. His gray pasty skin is creepy but its the slightly frosted eyes that really unnerve you. The image here doesn't show any of the true detail of the card so if you want the link for the Neopet view of it, check the bottom of the review.
Deck Series: Battle For Meridell
Promo Card: No
Strength: +4
Agility: +4
Magic: +4
Intelligence: +4
The +4 stat boost for each arena is nice but the +2 for banking is just as appealing. This isn't a hard card to play so it is nice for beginners to use in their deck if they want to have a Petpet that they can add to a Dark pet. There aren't that many things that you need to preplan when using this card in an event but you will want to make sure that you have a good chance of winning the contest. If you do lose you wont have to give up the card, it will simply get returned to your deck but that means you will have to use another turn to get it back into the game. Neopets classifies this as a rare card meaning that it wont surface all that often in packs; it isn't as hard to come by as you think and you will probably find this a bit more often than a Holofoil.
Year Released: 2004
Series Number: 60/140
Equipment | Petpet | Dark
What exactly is a Moltenore? It's a combination of a few things but there isn't much information known about it so most of what you will find out about it is speculation. They were released at the website in 2001 but are extremely rare to come by. Moltenus is one of the most infamous of the Moltenore species but he isn't very nice. Trying to find one on the Shop Wizard is impossible and recent searches on the Trading Post yielded a handful of results for Moltenore related items but no Petpets.
Directions: To use this you need to have a Dark pet to tap on to, if you happen to lose an event with this Petpet you wont lose the card but you will return it to your hand. This is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. While you wont lose the card, you won't get the two points for banking. Likewise if you want to reattach it to a Pet you will have to wait for your next turn and tap it into the contest. Not losing the card is a nice twist and I wish there were more card in this series that had that type of clause to it.
Quote: "I think he said he wanted to eat some grains, but we're all out. Could you go and fetch the little darling some?" Grains? I think he wanted brains not grains. That is a cute little play on words that I am sure went over the heads of younger players that havent seen their share of zombie movies.
There aren't a lot of Moltenore themed items at the site, there is only one food item, the "Chocolate Moltenore" [a Gourmet food pick so it is expensive], two TCG cards and the various forms that the Moltenore can be painted. Getting one of these as a Petpet will be an expensive venture and even the two TCG cards are priced over 99,999 NP [that is the highest amount an item will show up at on the Shop Wizard].
The Bottom Line
Even though this is listed as being a rare card I managed to find more than a few in packs and boxes. If you want to get one [or three] of them you can check online or a local card shop to see if they have it. The average selling price is around .50 cents but that is if it is in mint condition. If you are going to trade for this card don't give up anything more than a +2 for banking or another Petpet card with equal or lesser stats. The Neopet TCG cards are made by Wizards of The Coast and will perform well during TCG events with only a minimal amount of scratching; store them well when they arent in use and they will stay in great shape for years.
