Neopet TCG "Flying Potion" 74/140: If Only All Potions Were This Enchanting

Written: Apr 14 '08
Pros:Nice artwork, three banking points, easy to play.
Cons:Not a Holofoil, low stats.
The Bottom Line: An easy card for beginners to play and who can turn their nose up at 3 for banking?

If you are into the Neopet TCG then collecting the banking cards is probably one if the biggest draws to buying the packs. You never know what you will get and coming across something with a +3 or +5 always makes the purchase price worth it. I used to play at events but as of late there haven't been many of them locally but I am hoping that will change when Wizards of The Coast and Neopets come out with a new series. For now I am more than content collecting the cards, building decks and trying to get the ultra rare ones that I have been missing for a few years. Whether you collect them for their art or use them in events, this is a nice banking card that has great graphics and is extremely easy to play.

Neopet TCG "Flying Potion" 74/140

Imagery: This is a great example of what a TCG card should have; color, detail, easy playability and better than average banking points. I love the slightly muted view of Meridell Castle in the background but it's the swirls of light blue that mix the clouds and the charge of the potion bottle that really make this card pop. But wait, look at the contents of the potion bottle itself and the Meridell amulet that graces the front of it. No matter how you look at this card, it is one of the nicer ones in the 'uncommon' portion of the deck and hey, any time you can bank three points it’s a good, good thing.

Deck Series: Battle For Meridell
Promo Card: No
Strength: N/A
Agility: +1
Magic: +1
Intelligence: N/A

Much like the "Golden Negg", one of the main reasons to play this card is to get the three banking points that will help you reach your goal of twenty one. Given that you are only getting +1 for Agility and Magic you shouldn't count on this card to help your stats at all. The only restriction is that you need to have an Earth pet so this makes it an extremely easy card for beginners to use. Neopets has this listed as an 'uncommon' card meaning that it might be a little hard to find but no where near as hard as a "R" [rare] or "H" [Holofoil].

Year Released: 2004
Series Number: 74/140
Item | Potion | Air

If you were looking to get more of these you might run in to some problems with people who are overcharging because of the "uncommon" classification of the card. This isn't a Holofoil as some sites have it listed and it isn’t impossible to get in packs. The common selling price is between .30 and .45 cents in mint condition; because the cards are well made it can be hard to tell if it's been used in events or not. Holding it on an angle should show scratches but that's not something you can do when buying from someone online. Buy from reputable vendors and make sure you check the return policy on trading cards before you buy.

Directions: To play this in an event you need to have an Earth pet; if you win the contest you get to return this card to your hand and choose on of your Neopet or Hero cards from one of the four arenas and move it to another. This is something that needs to be discussed before you start playing; sometimes it isn't beneficial to move any of your cards so this is something that you may want to talk over with other players before events start. The card doesn't say that you have to move a pet or Hero but it doesn’t say that it is optional either.

Quote: "Kayla took the king's request a little too literally". Two of the more popular Kayla themed items are the "Kaylas Silver Brew" and "Kaylas Gold Brew" but her chemistry set is also a nice thing for galleries. Since Kayla is so great at mixing up potions and brews she does tend to take her work rather seriously which might explain why she was so irked when a few of the pets started playing around with her "Petpet Growth Syrup"

Since the image here isn't all that great you can check out a much nicer version at the Neopet website by visiting your TCG album or you could take the easy way out and cut and paste this URL into your browser:

If you are a member of the website and like to collect potions there are a lot of different ones to choose from; some are healing potions, others will change the image of your pet and some are used for battle. Some of the coolest include the "Exploding Potion", "Kauvaras Potion", "Jhudoras Potion", "Rainbow Swirly Potion" and "Spyder Potion". For morphing potions there are so many dark and creepy ones but the ones that stand out are the "Faerie Shoyru Morphing Potion", "Halloween Nimmo Morphing Potion", "Cybunny Transmogrification Potion", "Korbat Transmogrification Potion" and "Desert Blumaroo Morphing Potion". Don't forget about the Healing Potions that run from I to XIII, "Super Strength Healing Potion" and the pet specific "Kougra Healing Potion" and "Meerca Healing Potion".

The Bottom Line

This isn't a card that is going to knock your socks off visually and there are others that have higher stats and banking points but it's the fact that it combines all three that makes this card worth collecting. This isn't one of the absolute best cards in the Battle For Meridell series but it is one of the nicer looking ones that is great for beginners to use to get to know the dynamics of the game a little more. If you were to trade for this card I'd say accept nothing less than a +3 bank card or something with high stats. There might be some cooler looking cards in the series and some that have better stats and banking points but there are a lot that are worse than this.

As always, thanks for the visit…
