| Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Trading Card Game Battle for Meridell Unco... |
I am a huge fan of the dark and creepy cards in the Neopet TCG [Trading Card Game]. The Oubliette card is one of my favorites from the Battle For Meridell series because it's both dark and creepy and has a rotting skeleton at the bottom of the holding cell. Don't know what an oubliette is? Think of it as a prison cell except the door isn't located in front of you, its above you. That makes escaping all that more difficult. In an odd twist, the word translated from French to English meaning "forgotten" or "to forget" which is exactly what the quote on the card refers to. And people say you cant learn anything interesting from Neopets.
Neopet Battle For Meridell TCG 90/140: Oubliette
If you are into collecting the really dark cards in the TCG series, this should be that the top of your list. It's unclear which species is locked in the oubliette but he must have really ticked someone off in order to end up there. One very interesting aspect of the card is the creature that is leaning over the top of the cell and looking down at the skeleton, again, it is hard to tell exactly which species this is but it does have some evil red glowing eyes. The artwork on this card is stunning, the attention to detail is meticulous. A great example of that is the light that is coming through the side lattice work of the cell. In a traditional oubliette there wouldn't be any type of window, something that would be a strong guarantee that the person imprisoned would go mad.

Year Released: 2004
Series Number: Battle For Meridell
Directions: There is a hefty restriction on this card, it can only be played in the Agility arena and it prevents other players from drawing cards for winning a contest. This is a nice card to slap down to slow other players down, especially if you see them getting ready to make a few major moves that could cause you to lose.
This isnt considered a rare card, not is it a Holofoil as some sites list it. If you were to buy this individually the average selling price for a mint card runs about .25 cents. From the boxes that I purchased I ended up with seven of these; a few of them were traded for other cards but I did put three of them aside to keep them in perfect condition. One thing that I really love about these cards is that they are well made. Even if you play them all the time, scuffing, scraping and scratching are rarely a problem. The same can be said about fingerprints. The cards are well made but they can be a little on the expensive side if you are buying the individual packs.

The Bottom Line
With 140 cards in the Battle for Meridell series it might be hard to build a complete deck buying the individually packs. I started out that way and got frustrated. Buying them by the box is a huge initial investment but you stand a good chance of getting some valuable cards as well as redemption codes. The artwork on the Oubliette card is awesome, its a card that can be played to slow down other players and while it is just a Location card, if you are in it for more than just playing the TCG, it is a really nice card to have in your deck.
As always, thanks for the visit
