I suppose you could say Neosporin has become a bit of a family tradition. My mother has sworn by its healing properties for as long as I can remember, reaching for that familiar yellow tube when minor injuries arose, and the fondness for the ointment has been passed on to me for use with my own family.
Odorless as it is, Neosporin adds a touch of TLC for even the biggest of "boo boos". I remember always feeling better when mom put Neosporin on my scraped knees and elbows. It soothes and heals minor cuts, scrapes, and burns, and protects against infection.
Neosporin doesn't burn or sting, and even though it is slightly oily or greasy, it washes off hands easily with the use of soap, and is color-free. It has been tried and true many times over in my case, and really does seem to facilitate healing. As an antibiotic, it fights bacteria, enabling hurt to heal more quickly. As directed, twice daily use over a period of about one week allows healing to happen faster.
The consistency of Neosporin may not seem like much, but its potential to ward off infection and heal more quickly is unsurpassed by other over the counter medications. It has been going strong for twenty-five years, and is on the top of my "mom list" of must-have medications.
Even an initial use on cuts and scrapes helps fight infection, and it only takes a dab to cover the potentially infected area. I buy the standard yellow tube which makes it easy to squeeze the ointment right on the wound. After cleaning the injured area, I apply Neosporin, and then cover with a bandage or band-aid.
I recommend this product for the first aid kit and the medicine cabinet as you never know when you'll need it. It isn't anything fancy, but will keep you from a world of hurt for just a few dollars. Plus, a tube will last and last.
