For Preventing Infection Along With Speedy Recovery of Owies & Boo-Boos: Neosporin+Pain Relief
Written: Oct 03 '06 (Updated Oct 09 '06)
Pros:Works as claimed: Prevents Infection, Speeds Up Healing Time
Cons:The Pain Relief: Was Mild at Best
The Bottom Line: I did not feel much pain relief, but it did not increase pain like other antiseptics. Neosporin works well overall and should be a part of your First-Aid Kit.
A clutch item to maintain in the presence of your home medicine cabinet as the claims of the product not only produce results, but work in aiding the healing process of ones scraps & wounds. Furthermore the product does a great job of preventing infection, reducing scaring, and expediting the healing process. Distributed by Pfizer Consumer Healthcare out of Morris Plains, NJ they do an excellent job of bringing the package information to you in an easy to read description. To expand on some of that information and share my personal experience please read on.

Personal Experience
Finding myself partaking in harsher outdoor activities with tools, wood, field equipment, and vegetation I quickly learned the value of healing quickly and preventing further infection. My main tool prior to Neosporin Pain was hydrogen peroxide, which works well, but fails to keep the cut continually clean & does not offer the added bonus of pain relief. I have found with Neosporin that the claims of are generally true as the product does increase the rate of healing, while preventing infections to the open wound.
I did not find that the pain relief was as prominent as claimed, I really did not notice much of a decrease in actual pain to the area, but unlike the sting of hydrogen peroxide it did not cause extra pain. I personally apply a Band-Aid to prevent the product from smearing everywhere after application.
Finally I would highly recommend the gel because the cream does not stay on the cut or cover in a thick protective layer like the gel. In my opinion I would recommend the Neosporin Plan Gel over the Pain relief, however both work equally as well when it comes to healing, protecting, and preventing.
