miguelm's Full Review: NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router
I gave up on this router after only about two weeks. It's unreliable, and even when it works, it has problems.
Setup was fairly easy, which was already disappointing since my previous router was trivial to set up. But I had it up and running in an hour or so. Then I noticed that any web page I went to looked like it never finished loading. Somehow, the "waiting for more..." icon never went away on any web site I went to. Then I discovered that, when I lost power, it won't restart on its own. I need to turn on the modem first, then wait until it comes up, then start the router. If I didn't wait for the right time, it wouldn't start up. The last thing I need is a router that needs babysitting! (My previous router never needed babysitting.)
After a few days it became clear that the router needed to be reset pretty often, sometimes more than once a day. (My last router needed to be reset every couple of weeks, and that was just to support wireless. The wired connections were never a problem.) Constant resetting wouldn't be so bad if it had a simple power button, like my modem does. But no, I need to reach behind the unit, yank out the power cord, then plug it back in. Yuck!
I finally decided to dump this unit when powering back up failed to reset it. I didn't bother trying to diagnose the problem. I know a lemon when I smell it.
