I'm getting up in years, alright, yes, I'm older, but not dead yet. I've been getting to the point where I cannot find my eyebrows without my 7X magnification mirror and a pair of glasses on.
The first time I looked in this mirror, I nearly passed out. All the pores looked like craters, the lines resembled the Grand Canyon and the hairs looked like California Redwoods. No wonder our vision worsens as we age, so we cannot see what the years have done to our skin.
In discussing these issues with my eldest daughter, I told her my face was in desperate need of some sandblasting, a jackhammer, belt sander and a chainsaw.
Thoughtfully, she came home with this Neutrogena Advanced Solutions at Home MicroDermabrasion System. She said it's not quite as barbaric as my suggestions, but would I give it a try.
THE UNIT
This machine comes packaged conveniently on a stand with two dense sponge attachments. The machine measures 6 inches by 2.25 inches at its widest. It's contour shape fits comfortably in my hand. There is no rubber grip. The switch is located conveniently for thumb placement and has two speeds. The machine operates on 2 AA Duracell disposable batteries which were included in the kit. There is no plug for charging. The base measures 2.5 x 2.5 inches and holds the machine securely in place.
The soft, dense sponge attachments are to be used for approximately one month, then replace. The sponge clips on and off with pressure. Neutrogena had some foresight and thoughtfully provided the first replacement for us. The refills sell for about $5.50 on Amazon.com for a pair.
Also included in this system are 2.5 ounces of Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Micro-Oxide Crystallized Cream. Refills are also sold on Amazon for $17.50.
One replacement of each would almost equal the price of a new system.
DIRECTIONS
Start with a clean face and apply the cream to your forehead, nose, chin and cheeks. Power on and rotate in small circles all over your face. You do not add water, and avoid eye contact. It is suggested that you massage about one to two minutes per facial area. Once complete, then wash off face, and apply (your own) moisturizer.
It is suggested that this is done for five consecutive days then skip one week and continue 1-3 times weekly for every week afterward, depending on your skin.
MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS
This system is not to be used on skin with disorders, broken or abraded skin, rosacea, pustular acne, infections or sensitive skin disorders. Do not use with products containing Retin A, Retinol, glycolic or salicylic acids. Discontinue use of these products one week prior to using this kit, as well as wait two days after treatment.
USAGE
My daughter treated me to this beauty treatment and I found that it took many rinses to remove all the crystals from my face. A shower was a better choice. I moisturized my skin and had my required beauty rest. My daughter, age 22, using the second sponge also underwent this same ritual. The next morning my skin was pink and I noticed less flakiness and so did my daughter. After several treatments, I did not notice any difference in blackheads, craters or creases.
This product promises 20% improvement in the condition of your skin over a four week period. Although I do see some improvement, my daughter and I cannot attest to that claim after 2 months. I've got that darn mirror showing me the truth.

BOTTOM LINE
This system marginally improved the texture and flakiness of my skin, but the Fountain of Youth, it is not. I look in my 7X magnification mirror, and what I see still represents a lunar horizon. I'll need a weaker pair of glasses and to dispose of my beloved 7X magnification mirror, or someone with big power tools.
