bops_mom's Full Review: Neutrogena Anti Wrinkle Anti Blemish Scrub
Quite some time ago – I want to say a couple of years ago – a friend mentioned that she had purchased a new skin care product and was really pleased with how well it was working for her. She and I have very different skin types and yet from what she said I thought it was worth a try for me. That product was Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Scrub.
Product Info
Packaged in a mostly white tube with flip top lid Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Scrub is a thick white cream that has small orange scrubby particles. It smells fresh and clean – definitely a unisex scent; not overpowering. A 4.0 fl oz. tube will cost you between $6 - $8.
Neutrogena markets this product for those of us who are at the in between stage of life. You know, those who still get a few break outs here and there, but are also getting more lines and wrinkles, too. Personally I think it’s just wrong to be dealing with pimples and crows feet at the same time, but my face simply refuses to listen to reason.
The whole anti-wrinkle anti-blemish part means Neutrogena has put both salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy acid in this product. That in turn means, please stay out of the sun and if you must venture into the sun you really should be wearing some serious SPF or you’re risking a pretty nasty sunburn.
My Experience
Yeah, so I still get a few pimples periodically (more than that, really) and since I am about to go past the point of no return - where I can no longer say I’m in my early 30’s because I’m going to be 35 – I’m also concerned about wrinkles. Yes. It’s great. That’s why I thought this might be a good product to try. That and I’m a real sucker for a new scrub (facial or body).
My skin tends to be dry (yep, with breakouts – it’s fabulous) and so I wasn’t quite sure if the salicylic acid would be too much or not. So far it hasn’t been. Keep in mind though that with my dry skin I use a pretty intense daily moisturizer that is loaded with shea butter.
I’ve been using this product pretty much daily for the last couple of years. That alone should tell you how much I like it. The scrubby particles are gentle enough for my sensitive skin and the mixture of salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy acid have proven to be a really nice combo for me.
I do believe that Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Scrub helps to keep my skin clearer than it would be otherwise. Since my skin is dry I can’t use many of the acne products on the market as they’re simply too drying. I don’t have a ton of wrinkles but I can’t honestly say this product is the reason why. I do however think it helps. The fact that it renews the skin by sloughing away dead/old skin cells it keeps my skin looking and feeling young and fresh.
And so….
If you’re looking for a product that will help with both occasional (or frequent) break outs as well as help with lines and winkles this may be a product for you to try. I think it’s probably best geared for those in their mid twenty’s to early forties but you know your skin better than I do and you’ll probably know when it’s time to leave behind the all acne geared skin care and or move on to the extra emollient skin care. This product is certainly not for everyone but it sure has been fantastic for me.
If you’re concerned that it may be too harsh you may want to try Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Cleanser instead. I personally prefer the scrub as I’m a bit of scrub fanatic and I’ve found that the cleanser doesn’t keep my skin as soft and fresh as Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Scrub.
