Pros: Packaged in an easy to apply tube; may be helpful for mild cases of acne.
Cons: Very expensive in price; 2% Salicylic Acid not strong enough to control moderate acne.
The Bottom Line: As a topical nighttime pore clarifying gel, Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment does not help to clear up moderate acne for those with oily skin.

| melissasrn's Full Review: Neutrogena Clear Pore Treatment |
First of all, I must admit that I'm fairly new to the Neutrogena® line of skin care products. Usually when shopping for facial care treatments, I tend to skip over this brand because of the higher price when compared to similar products containing close to the same ingredients. But because I was tired of the way benzoyl peroxide containing acne treatments often leave my combination skin dry and scaly when used on a daily basis, I finally decided to try a few items in the Dermatologist recommended Neutrogena® skin care line to see what all the fuss was about. Even though I had high hopes, I've come away from this experience quite disappointed at the results, or should I say, LACK of results.
PRICE & INDICATIONS
Purchased at my local Wal-Mart for $4.47 as a topical acne treatment, I placed high hopes into this small 2 ounce tube of Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment Nighttime Pore Clarifying Gel that it would deliver in it's promise to help clear my acne-prone skin. I knew it was too much to ask for immediate results, so I faithfully applied this clear invisible gel treatment containing 2% Salicylic Acid every night at bedtime after thoroughly cleansing my face as directed for over a month and waited for clearer skin to immerge. Advertised as a deep penetrating clear pore acne treatment that is alcohol free (i.e....non-drying) and does not clog pores, Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment seemed like the solution to my skin condition. But as of this writing, I'm STILL waiting!
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
To apply, simply squeeze a small amount of Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment with it's light, non-greasy, oil-free formula onto your fingertips and spread thinly across clean acne-prone areas of your skin at bedtime. The large, flat flip-top opening found at the bottom of the tube allows for easy retrieval of the product as well as upright storage when not in use. Allow the treatment to dry and then leave on overnight for clearer pores while you sleep to reduce blackheads and blemishes. It sloughs off dead skin cells and removes everyday pore-cloggers such as makeup, dirt and oil by penetrating deep into the skins pores. Once morning comes, wash the face again with a gentle cleanser. Use on a nightly basis for best results for skin that is smooth and clear. If bothersome dryness or peeling occurs, reduce application of Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment to every other day.
WARNINGS
For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. If contact occurs, flush thoroughly with water. Using other topical acne medications at the same time or immediately following the use of Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment may increase dryness or irritation of the skin. If this occurs, only one medication at a time should be used unless directed otherwise by a doctor. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
ACTIVE INGREDIENT
2% Salicylic Acid
JUST WHAT IS SALICYLIC ACID?
SALICYLIC ACID, the active ingredient found in Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment is often used for many types of skin disorders, depending on the type and strength of the preparation. If you've ever treated yourself with an over-the-counter wart removal application such as Compound-W®, you'll notice that the active ingredient there is the same, only in a stronger, more concentrated variety. Used in weaker strengths, such as the 2% Salicylic Acid that may be found in Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment, this chemical has been found to help control mild cases of acne.
MY EXPERIENCE
Maybe because I'm genetically prone to having oily skin containing large pores, Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment in all honestly had little chance of helping to improve my skin's condition from the very beginning. The active ingredient described above just wasn't strong enough to prevent my acne-related breakouts. Instead of waking up to clearer skin, I actually experienced MORE pimples the longer I used this product. But since the label suggested that Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment keeps skin smooth, clear, and less prone to breakouts with REGULAR use over time, I stuck with it and waited for better results. Unfortunately, they never came. So, for now, it's back to the harsh and drying benzoyl peroxide containing treatments for me, such as Oxy-5®, Oxy-10®, and Clearasil® until I can find a better solution.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
Purchase Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment Nighttime Pore Clarifying Gel ONLY to help control bouts of mild acne, as poor results from use with moderate cases are more likely to result. And if you find that the 2% Salicyclic Acid preparation found in this product works for you, consider comparing Neutrogena® Clear Pore Treatment to other less expensive brands containing the same ingredient if you are on a budget. Will I buy this product again? NEVER. Neutrogena®, I'm NOT impressed!
