Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer: Perfect light coverage that moisturizes

Written: Dec 01 '07 (Updated Jan 10 '09)
Pros:Is a moisturizer and has SPF 20, doesn't make fine lines more obvious
Cons:Provides only light coverage
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this for an everyday makeup, or if you just want something for when you don't want to feel like you're wearing foundation.

I was tired of heavy foundation that I felt was making my skin (and me) look older. I ran across this product, and I've since been using it in place of foundation.

This moisturizer has the benefits of being a retinol treatment, SPF 20 moisturizer, and sheer tint makeup all in one.

It comes in a pump tube that makes it easy to use -- you don't have to worry as much about accidentally dumping a lot of it into your hands. I simply give it one good pump, and I get about the right amount every time.

Neutrogena Skin Enhancer feels smooth and creamy in my hands and when I put it on my face. It blends in easily. I usually use #30, which is "Light to Neutral," but I keep a tube of #40 around to use in the summer when I'm a little bit tan.

Normally I just put this right on my bare skin. But if it's a cold day or my skin's been dry, I do use another moisturizer in spots before applying it. Otherwise, I just put it on, then apply concealer and a little blush and powder, and I am ready to go. If I just put it on by itself, it doesn't even look like I'm wearing makeup, which is great. Unlike heavier foundations, it doesn't sink into fine lines and make them more obvious.

I've tried most of the Neutrogena foundations, and I like Healthy Skin Enchancer best because it makes my face look young and healthy, keeps my skin moisturized adequately and has SPF. I probably wear it six days a week.

My only complaint is that it provides only light coverage. If you have a breakout, you'll probably want to use a lot of concealer or switch to a heavier foundation. I usually use Neutrogena's Skin Clearing Foundation for those days...it keeps your skin from being too oily and helps clear your face up.

I'm a big fan of this moisturizer and consider it one of my favorite products. I often try different foundations, but I usually come back to this one.

Price and availability: It is a little pricey for a drugstore makeup. It usually costs around $12-14. I usually look for coupons in my Sunday newspaper and good sales to bring the price down. CVS and Walgreens sometimes have "Buy 1, Get 1 half off" or 40% off Neutrogena deals, so I usually stock up then. You can find Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer at most drugstores and mass merchandise stores, and at Ulta.
