Benzoyl peroxide is an effective acne treatment, but getting the right formula takes some shopping around. The higher the percentage of benzoyl peroxide, the better it is for taming blemishes--and the more it dries out the skin, creating new problems. Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment works better for me than any other spot treatment I've tried.
I use another treatment to reduce breakouts, but it can't prevent them all. I need a treatment to take down the blemishes that do occur. Neutrogena claims that they've made this 2.5% formula as effective as a 10% formula. At first, I was skeptical, but I've come to trust Neutrogena, so I decided to give it a shot.
On-the-Spot dried my skin a little bit at first, but not nearly as badly as 10% benzoyl peroxide solutions have. The 10% formulas dried my skin out so badly that my skin sometimes cracked, letting in more germs to make--you guessed it--more blemishes. I used On-the-Spot once a day until my skin was used to it, then worked my way up to the recommended maximum of three times a day. When my skin is very dry (say, during a desert trip), I reduce usage to twice a day.
My only complaint is that the tube is pretty small. At three applications a day, that means that I run out more quickly than I'd like. I wish Neutrogena would make a bigger size for those of us who have to use a lot of it.
I've found On-the-Spot pretty effective for shrinking my stubborn blemishes. Someone with less persistent acne might have even better results and/or find that fewer applications do the job. I recommend that anyone with an acne problem consider working Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment into their skin care regimen.
