| Sundrop's Full Review: Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunblock Lotion |
I am on a never-ending mission to find beauty products that:
1. Don't irritate my pathetically-sensitive skin (I not only have eczema, but have allergic reactions to many types of make-up, soaps, hair-sprays, shampoos, etc.). To top it off, I'm a fair-skinned blonde, so the sun wreaks havoc on me (I've already had 2 "suspicious" spots removed this year) and I'm prone to problems with adult-acne.
2. Actually do what they're supposed to do (moisturize my skin, keep it in good condition, don't clog my pores, etc.)
As you can probably tell, I have a tough time finding skin-products that I am able to trust. Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunblock is one product I have in my skin-care arsenal for some time (around 2 years).
Let me preface this review by telling you, I do not sun-bathe. I repeat, I do not sun-bathe! I use this product under my make-up everyday, to protect the skin on my face, ears and neck from exposure to the sun.
Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunblock goes on very smooth and absorbs quickly. Little to no irritation when applied to my face, even around my eyes. I've even gotten this product in my eyes before, and though the world looked blurry, I don't remember it being painful. I also apply make-up on top of this product (which has sunscreen in it as well) - and my make-up goes on very well over it (powder is a must though, which I touch-up a couple times per day).
Though I have skin that is naturally prone to breaking out, I haven't noticed an increase in my break-outs since using this product. Furthermore, I haven't broken out in hives or gotten any kind of rash from this product (which is a big deal!)
The sun protection I get from this product, which is so terribly important in this day & age, is wonderful. I live in North Carolina, and we get a lot of sunshine. I don't spend tons of time outdoors, but I do walk about half a mile to and from my parking spot (when I go to work), and I normally spend at least 30 minutes of my lunch break walking, so I am exposed to the sun long enough to suffer at least a minor sun-burn. I've never had a problem since I started using Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunblock.
The downsides to this Sunblock:
1. It is NOT waterproof (so be prepared to re-apply if you go swimming or sweat a lot)
2. It was tested on animals (it's the only cosmetic product I use that is not cruelty-free)
3. It should be a higher SPF than 17 (I've done a lot of research on this, and though there is debate as to whether anything over SPF 15 is necessary, there are many supporters of using sunscreens with SPF 15+. My doctor told me that SPF 15 was a minimum for my skin).
The verdict is still out on whether this product will protect my skin "in the long-run". But, from what I see right now, it's definitely doing its job!
