| shartion's Full Review: Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Lotion Medium |
I love summer! I love the sun! I love the island we spend two weeks on during the summer months. I love being out on the water. I love going to barbecues....picnics...fairs. Guess you get the idea. I also love to be comfortable. Like many of us, comfortable during the summer months means shorts. Unfortunately, I look hideous in them.
My legs are the color of whipped egg whites. Pretty ~scary~, huh?
In my younger days I used to argue with my sister about who had the best tan. For us, a tan was the color of a slightly off-white piece of paper. I know, I know - that's not what a tan really is but you have to realize we are fair-skinned people...have to be optimistic here. Now days my tan consists of either those freckles covering up the white areas of skin or the fading redness of being out in the sun too long without suntan lotion.
OR, the tan I achieve from Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray.
Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray is a "non-streaking, fast drying, light, fresh fragrance, non-aerosol spray." It is also "oil-free, non-comedogenic," (less likely to produce acne than others) "hypo-allergenic and alcohol-free." I state it as Neutrogena says it and I have found all to be true.
I used to use "Coppertone" sunless tanning products but all I achieved was a somewhat streaked-look of off-color, dirty-looking, orange skin. I would use it, see how horrible it looked and not use it for awhile. But during this time I had to endure comments like "Are you ever white. Don't you ever get out in sun?" So I'd get desperate and try it again, thinking I must have done something wrong the last time. The orange coloring looked worse than those unbaked loaves of leaven bread legs of mine and I'd end up wearing jeans so I didn't have to hear "Love the orange, Shar." Instead it was "How can you stand to wear jeans on a hot day like today?"
After Coppertone, I did try one or two others but found them to be very expensive. They also made my skin look very unnatural and were difficult to apply.
I have been using Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray on my legs now for at least four years. I just lightly spray it over one leg, blend in and follow on the second leg. You can even hold the bottle upside down for the areas that are harder to reach. I prefer it over the lotion products I'd tried that end up in a gooey mess. I was never quite sure if I was applying too little or too much to an area.
I usually apply Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray while standing in my bathroom in case it were to get on any carpet. Directions say to avoid spraying on carpets, furniture or fabric. Makes sense to me as I would think any product that can change my skin color could also change anything else it comes in contact with. The bottle states it takes 5 minutes to dry and that's pretty accurate. As recommended, I thoroughly wash my hands to be sure none of the product remains. Otherwise I end up with brown-looking fingernails. By the time I fix my hair or throw on a bit of makeup. it's dry. I just get dressed and after a couple of hours, I start to notice the color change on these pasty white legs.
One thing I really like about this product is it does look so natural. I use the light/medium so the color is pretty much the same as my arms and face. I did try the medium deep once but since I have such fair skin, it really looked unnatural. It also comes in deep/deep.
I do find the spray doesn't last as long as Neutrogena claims unless their "several days" means after a couple of showers.
The bottle I have is over a year old. It contains no sunscreen at all but the new ones now have SPF8 for minimum protection. Will definitely grab that one for next summer.
So...do I have beautiful tan legs? Uh,uh! Anyone not knowing me would still think I have very light-colored legs. BUT as long as I apply the Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray, they are an acceptable color....one where people no longer goggle at the whiteness of them. But then again...like my 21 year old says in a way that makes us both laugh, "Mom, you're old so who really cares!" She's right. I'm the only one but it makes me feel better about these unsightly white legs and I'm glad I finally found a product that works for me.
Let's see now....I have that luncheon on the pontoon with those four friends who look like they were born with their golden tans. That means I'll take my shower, exfoliate, and apply Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray that morning and by noon...
Of course they'll have on their swimsuits - ahhhhhhh.....just wish I could solve the other body problems as quick and easy as I take care of these pallid white legs with Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray. Wonder if Neutrogena has any products that lift...tug....p u l l...shapes...
