Pros: works great without harming your skin, not orangey like other brands
Cons: fades quickly, if not applied perfectly it comes out uneven
The Bottom Line: Neutrogena Self-Tanning products give you a good even tan, without the orange color. It doesn't last long, but at least its cheap. Check out my tips for excellent self-tanning.

| lyn_johnston's Full Review: Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Lotion Medium |
I'm going to start my review by saying a little about my experience in the sun. I grew up and reside in Florida, where the potential to burn is tremendous, especially for a fair skinned red-head like myself. I have worried for a long time that "laying-out" and going to the tanning bed would harm my skin, giving me wrinkles or even skin cancer.
I have, over the years, tried almost every brand in self-tanning lotions and sprays. I had given up on them all when a friend told me to try Neutrogena's line of tanners. I had never tried Neutrogena... I always thought that if I bought the more expensive brands I would have better results. WRONG!!
Neutrogena produces the best line of self tanning lotions and sprays that I have tried so far. I use 'medium deep', and I have never experienced any problems with my skin turning orange. In fact, many people ask me if I go to the tanning bed since they know that I burn in the sun within 30 minutes.
I started off using the lotion, which works extremely well and is very easy to apply. Later, I tried the spray, but did not like it as well. With the spray, if you don't spread it out on your skin perfectly, you end up with some spots that are darker than others.. I've never experienced that with the lotion. Also, the lotion blends better from the places where you apply it to the places you can't get to, or don't realize you missed. For instance, with the lotion, the top of my arms blend nicely into the underside, but when I used the spray, I forgot to cover the underside, and I ended up with a line where the top of my arm was very tan and the underside was very white!!
TIPS:
1. I always use some kind of loofah or body scrub in the shower before I apply the self-tanning lotion. (My recommendation is that you use the lotion instead of the spray)
2. After application, you should wait about 5 minutes before you get dressed. I think it tells you to wait on the bottle, but I've never waited over 5 minutes, and I've always gotten good results.
3. Once the tanner dries, it's o.k. to put on some good-smelling lotion to cover up the odor. Neutrogena's product isn't overpowering, but I still don't like the smell. Regular lotion has never interfered with my getting a tan.
4. One downside to this product is that it doesn't last very long; only about 4 to 5 days for me. I like to apply it about twice a week to make sure I'm always tan.
5. Wash your hands after use!! It will tan your palms too.
6. Don't forget to rub the lotion on the tops of your hands and feet, otherwise it will look very unnatural.
7. For the face: I rub it all over my face very quickly just like I do with my skin cream and it looks natural. Once I tried to "apply" it evenly to my face to make it more tan and it turned out looking very strange. Also, make sure to get it all the way up by your hairline, and when you're done, rub your hands on your ears and neck, too.
Happy Tanning!!
