pnutmom's Full Review: Neutrogena TRIPLE MOISTURE CREAM LATHER SHAMPOO
Youve probably heard the saying theres a sucker born every minute. Well, I am one of those suckers. If I see a new beauty product that looks interesting, I wanna buy it. The fact that most of the other products that company makes didnt work for me doesnt matter. I have this foolish hope that maybe this time it will be different. Im 27, I really should know better by now!
For the past year or so, I was using Redkens All Soft shampoo for my fine, thin, naturally curly hair. It worked fine, but I wanted to try and find a drugstore shampoo that I liked just as much seeing as the Redken stuffs not exactly cheap. I finally ran out of the All Soft a few weeks ago, and on my weekly grocery shopping trip, actually intended to buy the new John Frieda shampoo for brunettes. Well guess what? Right next to the John Frieda stuff is this new professional line from Neutrogena - Triple Moisture. Triple Moisture offers one shampoo and six varying conditioners. The packaging is very attractive - very light golden color with orange lids/caps. Neutrogena states on the tube of Triple Moisture Cream Lather Shampoo that is is the gentle, deeply moisturizing shampoo for soft, smooth, totally touchable hair all day. Well, what lady in her right mind doesnt want that?! Into my buggy it went.
Neutrogena also says:
The back of the shampoo tube also says This revolutionary cream hair cleanser gently dissolves away impurities and helps provide intense moisturization throughout every hair strand. Salon-approved and scientifically proven to help even severely dry, over-processed hair feel soft, smooth, and totally touchable all day, after a single use. Uh huh. Neutrogena sure likes to use the words totally touchable dont they? Anyway, theres also this little diagram that mentions the three naturally derived extracts penetrate to help moisturize each layer of the hair strand. Olive: penetrates the center. Meadowfoam Seed: helps moisturize the middle, Sweet Almond: wraps the surface. And all for totally touchable hair! Thats like, so totally rad! (Sorry, I keep thinking of the eighties lingo whenever Neutrogena uses the word totally).
My experience:
Well just from reading the Cream Lather Shampoo tube, at this point I am expecting beautiful, bouncy, soft, flowing hair! I get into the shower and start my usual routine. This shampoo (8.45 fl oz, 250 ml of it to be exact) is packaged in a squeezable plastic tube with a flip-top cap (it sits on the cap so its easy to keep in the shower) and is easy to open and close, even with wet hands. Im not real crazy about the smell. Its not bad, kind of a fresh scent, but a little too perfume-y for my taste. I was really surprised at the texture of this stuff - it looks like conditioner! Not quite as thick as most conditioners, but definitely not as runny or liquidy as most shampoo - cream seems to be an accurate description. I squeezed about a nickel-sized amount into my palm and applied the shampoo to my hair. Okay, so far its 2-2 for Neutrogena, this Triple Moisture Cream Lather Shampoo is creamy, and lathers well! It seems to rinse pretty easily too. I dont comb my hair after washing, so I dont honestly know how well this untangles. But my real question is, how will my hair look when its dry?
The first day:
Okay Ive washed my hair and applied my styling product, how does my hair look and feel? Well, I dont really see any difference between this and the Redken All Soft I was using. My hair looks a little frizzy, but I did just buy the Noodle Head creme from Beyond the Zone, so maybe I didnt use enough styling product today. Well try again tomorrow.
The second day:
Took a shower last night (did not wash my hair again) so all I have to do is wet it and put in some more Noodle Head. I go on about my day while my hair air dries, and look at myself later in the bathroom. Agghhh! What is up with my hair?! It looks (and feels) so weighed down, almost greasy!! This is not what I wanted at all! Hmmm, maybe its because of the Noodle Head stuff. Ill wash my hair tonight, and try a different styling product tomorrow.
The whole next week (and my final verdict):
Okay, Ive used this Cream Lather Shampoo three more times. Ive used my usual styling products (either Salon Selectives mousse or Infusium spray gel). My hair still looks bad on the 2nd and 3rd days. Alright, at this point I have to believe its the shampoo, and not my imagination (vivid as it is). I think this shampoo is just too much moisture for my hair. My final verdict would be to avoid this shampoo if you have thin or fine hair, like me. It just seems like its too much. If you have thick, course or, like Neutrogena says, severely dry or over-processed hair, this would probably work great for you.
