It seems like Im never totally content with skin care products; I like to try everything on the shelf to make sure Im not missing something better than what I already have. This doesnt always pan out into something better, but merely different, which is the case with Neutrogena Visibly Firm Night Cream.

This cream comes in a heavy glass jar with a copper-y screw-on lid. The jar contains 1.7 ounces (50 grams) of the cream. The jar itself has black and coppery-colored writing on it, but the information on it is minimal; there is a lot more information on the box that it comes packaged in. Aside from the brand and the name of the product, the most important thing on the jar is the direction to store it away from direct sunlight. The box, with its silver, copper, blue and white color scheme, is very attractive but to me seems like overkill on the packaging. It does have the ingredients list, product claims, a product description, and directions for use on it. I just find all that packaging wasteful, although I imagine they are trying to cut down on people stealing this stuff and it would be hard to fit all the information on the jar in a legible form.
The night cream itself is nice enough its a rich-feeling cream that isnt greasy. The color is a bit unusual it has a light blue tinge to it, where usually night creams are white, cream or maybe pink. It is fragrance free, which often means smells weird, but in this case it isnt bad. I usually prefer scented products, but I dont mind this. It is pretty subtle.
The directions on the box say, After cleansing, apply all over face and neck in place of your night cream or moisturizer. That is basically what I do; I wash my face and then use a toner. I do rinse my face and pat it dry after the toner so that there is some moisture on my face for the night cream to seal it. Then I just take a bit of the Neutrogena night cream and apply it to my face and neck. It does absorb pretty easily and I do think it moisturizes well. For the price, though, there are drugstore brand night creams out there that moisturize better and leave my skin feeling softer and smoother. So, while I thought the performance of the Neutrogena Visibly Firm Night Cream was fine, I just didnt think it was anything special. As for whether my skin is visibly firm after using it, well, Im only 33, so its hard to gauge that.
I paid $17.99 for this at our local Target store. Drugstore.com currently has the list price at $18.49. You can also likely find it at Kmart, Walgreens, CVS, and other drugstores. I think the price of this product is one of the things that lowered my opinion of it. Im sure that the active copper in it is one of the reasons for the higher price, but if Im going to spend this much on a night cream, Im happier if Im buying it at a department store cosmetics counter and getting a fun gift with purchase along with it. Or I could spend less and get the Nivea Q10 Advanced Wrinkle Reducer Night Cream (currently $10.99 at drugstore.com) and get a comparable product. In fact, I actually prefer the Nivea on the basis of performance!

Neutrogena Visibly Firm Night Cream is a decent night cream, but the price is pretty high for a drugstore brand. It works fine, I just have had better results from cheaper drugstore brands as well as more expensive cosmetics counter brands. If its the only thing on the shelf, theres nothing wrong with it, so I will recommend it
its just that you can buy better night creams. 3 stars.
