Technical Specifications...
The outsole of the New Balance 1000 is made of carbon rubber. Carbon rubber is the most durable rubber used in running shoes. The outsole actually consists of five separate pieces of rubber, two in the heel and three in the forefoot, allowing for excellent flexibility. The midsole is made of EVA. The gray EVA on the medial side of each shoe is denser than the white EVA is, and it helps slow the rate of pronation to prevent excessive rolling in. There is a stability web, made of plastic, to provide optimal motion throughout the foot strike. There is also a generous amount of ABZORB in the forefoot and in the heel. ABZORB is the name of the shock absorbing foam that New Balance uses to enhance cushioning. The upper is a combination of mesh and synthetic leather to provide breathable support. There is an extra notch on the heel to prevent the heel from slipping. The lacing system allows for many variations to fit many foot types.
Value...
The New Balance 1000 is an excellent shoe. It is worth the $110. I am a light runner (135 lbs.), but I felt that the cushioning was more than adequate. The 1000 is very light weight for a shoe that can stand up to the miles. New Balance shoes are good quality and are rarely defective. The New Balance 1000 is a great buy.
Bottom line...
The New Balance 1000 can stand up to long runs easily. The cool thing is that the 1000 feels much lighter than most of the shoes that provide the same forefoot and heel cushioning. The New Balance 1000 is ideal for a lightweight runner with a neutral stride.
