Introduction
This is the only pair of New Balance shoes I have owned and I have not been impressed with any aspect of them by any means because none of the features are outstandingly good or close to being note worthy.
Story
I was persuaded by a friend to purchase a pair of New Balances since that is what he predominantly wears around, works out in the gym, and uses running. I purchased New Balance 1700 GR on clearance for around thirty dollars.
Usefulness in Gym
I personally like these shoes on the treadmill on the aspect of the grip is very firm and steady;however, on the aspect of shock absorption there is a definite need for additional padding, otherwise your heels will feel like they are making a pretty solid crash landing onto concrete which is not pleasant especially if you have bone spurs in around the heel of your foot.
I do not recommend doing squats with these shoes because they feel like your are on solid ground.
Comfort
The New Balance 1700 GR shoes are not comfortable because the midsoles have a great deal of stiffness. However, I have found them to be pretty decent arch support, but when running for extended periods of time I usually add in a pair of Dr. Scholl's insoles.
Style
These particular New Balance 1700 GR shoes are about as ugly as I have seen any running shoe that are usually cheap generic shoes because they like the average Joe shoe from Walmart or Kmart.
Durability
My personal experience with New Balance 1700 GR are not durable on any level other than the shoe laces. I might have got a lemon because the insoles, midsoles, and soles are all seem to be outside of what you would desire in a running shoe. Normal wear and tear they should last two months to six months and not much more. I personally do not recommend over doing it on the water proofer because it has a starching effect making the synthetic leather (or whatever it is called) more likely to crack and tear from being stiffer.
New Balance 1700 GR are not resistant to harsh treatment at all and are truly a jogger's and work out and everyday life person's nightmare.
Warning do not throw New Balance 1700 GR into the washer machine because they will fall apart because the synthetic upper is not made with high quality materials
Ease of Clean Up
All it takes to clean them up is some gentle/mild soap, water, and a rag. The surface is resistant to getting stained so I did not water proof them. New Balance 1700 GR are virtually self-cleaning in the aspect most of the time all you need is a damp rag and that is it.
Recommend
I would not recommend them to anyone who wants to buy an pair of shoes that is for running because they are of the quality of some cheap shoe that you would buy for fifteen dollars back in the day when Kmart's shoes would fall apart in a month or so.
