Comfort: My newest shoe purchase for 2011 is the NEW BALANCE MW780BR COUNTRY WALKERS. Unfortunately, I had bad experience with the toebox of the New Balance MW966BR Waterproof Country Walkers being small and the wrong shape for my feet. So, I ordered these MW780BR a size larger and they feel and fit much better. The sales person said that different model New Balance shoes can have a different footbed shape. One great thing is the footbed at the heel has a very nice padded bounce to it. The heel feels perfect! The description from New Balance states these shoes have ABZORB cushioning soles with Dupont Engage compression. To me, these have the best bounce of any shoes I own. The NEW BALANCE MW780BR COUNTRY WALKERS are not waterproof. In fact, the sides have a layered breathable dark brown mesh, and the top of the toe is a dotted breathable suade. These are built to be warm weather summer shoes. The tongue padding is OK and plenty long to reach up to the top of the foot. These shoes are solidly built, so I would not describe them as being light weight. The NEW BALANCE MW780BR COUNTRY WALKERS feel very stable for walking. The nice thick wide soles offer complete protection from feeling every pebble on the sidewalk.
Durability: These are non-waterproof suade leather shoes. Quality fairly heavy solid build. The lace loops are metal ringed imbedded in the leather of the uppers, so they are as strong as the shoe itself. The laces are strong and sturdy too. These have an OK tall sole so that mostly only the rubber section (sole/treads) need to touch wet ground. This is more true for the heel end than the toe end.
Style: I bought these to be indoor work shoes because they look so good with natural color and tan chinos. Comparing style, the NEW BALANCE MW780BR COUNTRY WALKERS look sharp. The suade layers over itself making them modern when looking closely at them, but the brown and dark brown design blend nicely and look reserved at a distance which is good for work. They have the look of a quality high end summer shoe for a mature person. They are not all that sporty, so I can wear them easily to indoor casual events. As noted above, the soles are thick, but not as thick and heavy as the MW780BR Waterproof Country Walkers.
I wear the NEW BALANCE 780BR COUNTRY WALKERS at work, but they are great for walking on hard pavement too thanks to their bouncy soles. I suggest ordering one size bigger than your normal. If you try them on before buying and they fit you well, I can highly recommend them for warm dry weather use.
