| platypus55's Full Review: New Balance 803 Running Shoes |
I bought a pair of New Balance 803s as my first real pair of specialized for running shoes. I had been running up until then in any old cross trainers or sneakers or whatever.
I loved the way the 803's rolled me forward. They seemed to propel me. I'm a distance runner, not a sprinter, but even a distance runner can appreciate a little push on every step.
The 803's are sturdy as all get out. I do some trail running, as well as some gravel and rocky road running. They made me feel those bumps less
and my feet felt well supported inside of them.
The downside to the 803's is that they are a bit bulky and they don't fit the toeclips on my bike. The other thing (and this may only be me) is that the toe box is too short and narrow compared to the heel. Maybe I should have gotten a larger size. I got these shoes at a sports shoe store, and even so I guess you can't trust those people to know anything about fitting shoes.
I can't wear my pair of 803's any more because I jammed my big toes into toes of them on a long downhill stretch, and the toenails turned all black. Now it feels bad if I even put them on.
OK, I am going for a run, then I am going to see if I can auction these 803's with less than 100 miles on them on Ebay. Overall, the quality of these shoes is good for the price and I think they look nice. At least they did before I ran them through that mucky trail..
