| anecdoter's Full Review: New Balance 803 Running Shoes |
This is a wicked shoe - and I mean that in a good way! I've had my pair of New Balance 803s for over a month, I will keep buying these shoes for as long as they make them.
Disgusted by the ever increasing girth of most tennis shoes, I had beenvery reluctant to go shoe shopping, to the point of wearing the same pair of well-worn Nike's for four years, day in, day out. However, after realizing how grimy the shoes had become, I knew I could not delay the inevitable for much longer.
The first thing that attracted me to these shoes was the classic style. Instead of being a gigantic claude hopper, the 803 is a sleek, compact shoe that, despite its small profile, does not seem frail or fragile. In fact, the nearly one inch thick sole is probably one of the thickest I have ever seen on a running shoe.
In fact, these shoes are so durable that I use them as a work boot; while this is clearly not what they're for, and OSHA would scream at me, they handle the task just fine. I have walked across shards of broken glass in these shoes, without worry or concern to my feet; in fact I have stepped directly on more than one inch long nails with my New Balance shoes and have not had a single nail penatrate the thick rubber sole.
These shoes are very comfortable without sacrificing support. Unless on concentrate on my feet, I do not feel these shoes on them. Instead of hardly waiting to take my shoes off at the end of a day of working on my feet, I simply cannot even feel that I have shoes in. The comfort of these shoes surpasses by far that of the countless Nikes and Reeboks I have wore in the past. New Balance should be commended on the extrodinary level of cushioning they have filled the 803 with.
An avid runner, I have tested my 803s on the dirt paths of the local park with very pleasing results. These shoes are like steel vaults propping up my ankles, they provide a superior level of support; not once have began to feel my ankle sway from the unexpected impact of rough terrain.
The best way one can decide if a pair of shoes is for them, is to wear one. I recommend trying on a pair of 803s the next time you're shoe shopping. The high quality and excellent comfort and support make this shoe a definite must-try.
